Default Early B-Day present to me: New Roll Bars

I know you guys get nifty looking rollbars from the factory. But us 32 guys got some conservative styled ones from MB. As I haven't done any styling upgrades since I bought this car 5+ yrs ago... I figured it was time. As roll bars are for safety, not looks, I was concerned with aftermarket parts. When I found these newer "triagle" shape ones, made here in Germany with TUV certification, I figured it was meant to be...

Very clean look...
What is TUV?
I know for some of the certifications here in the U.S. the bar must have a minimum wall thickness (which I don't remember) must be a minimum of 2" above the head. Etc. Etc. Etc.
looks good.

Thanks guy! I'm liking them more every time I look at them. What sucks is that I sliced my thumb open while installing them... lol

Actually TUV is the european DOT-type certification (CE is the UL equiv). It basically means that it passed thier standards. Helps keep cheap, unsafe parts from being on the road. There are a bunch of chinese made sets on E-Bay with bad welds and inferior metals.

I didn't like the Audi-TT style hoops that were mostly out there as they stand too tall on this car. So when I saw this shape, I knew it would look better with the AMG seat sillouette.

Sorry, my mistake, CE is the UL equivalent. Not sure about the TUV being same as DOT. I have seen lots of TUV certs on products that I worked on in electronics. I will check into the TUV for clarifcation. Just to keep it straight in my mind......

edit: Okay. Now it makes sense. "TUV is a globally recognized testing, inspection and certification organization offering the highest quality services for a wide range of industries worldwide."
That is why manufacturing sites, and products, are certified by TUV, CE, UL and half a dozen other bodies. Sometimes we forget what we know. DOH!

Thanks guys! I can't believe I waited this long to change them out... guess I've been more into the performance.

It's amazing, but I get more compliments and questions on this car here in Germany than in the states. As gas is so expensive, nobody (in my area) seems to have the AMGs. One Canadian guy parked his SLK next to me at the grocery store. He actually said "that doesn't really have the V-6, right?" LMAO! His car had a botched R171 bumber on the front and fake V-6 and AMG badges on it. He even said "I'm having headwork done next month that will make as much HP as the AMG"... Yeah..... right buddy.

I cleaned it up today as it's supposed to be another beautiful weekend. I stopped at a roadside produce stand and realized the great backdrop as I was getting back into the car:
