Autobahn Driving
I was going to ride my bicycle along the river this morning up to the MB museum. Instead I decided to get the x fire out for a down top cruise. That turned into lunch in Strasbourg France. Beautiful town and two different driving experiences on the way down and back.
I went down on the A8/A5 and cruised for good stretches at 100-120 mph. On the way back I decided to go through the Shwarzwald National Park. By far the best drive so far in Germany, amazing roads! In the simplest terms for my Frau riding with me, squiggly lines on the map = BIG FUN. Here is a google map link for your review and approval

Cut and paste Oppenau, Germany into the google map link if you want to see the roads.
I was rewarded at a peak and along one of the ridges with the view in the attached picture.

Nice shot!
I drove down to Landstuhl Med Center this week. Was so dissapointed that the whole drive was regulated between 80-130km... Took a whole lot longer than it should have. The scenery down there is beautiful though.

My autobahn story: I was blasting down the 'bahn at 120 mph in a friends 911s (wife won't let me drive any faster). It was drizzling and gloomy out and not much traffic. All of a sudden, I almost jumped out of my skin when an array of bright lights lit my rearview mirror! It was a big Mercedes sedan wanting to go by!.
I pulled into the right lane and he blasted past like I was standing still! What a wonderfull country

I had an opportunity to drive the Autobahn between Swetzing (know I'm
butchering the spelling) and Kaiserslaugten (no, I'm not looking it up
).
Stupid little rented Opal couldn't get up to much more than about 110mph,
but it was still kinda fun to keep the petal to the metal for about an hour
each way. Did that twice a day for 5 days while providing Solaris training
to a bunch of our finest (big salute to all our active duty / retired or injured
service men and women).
I was a bit surprised, after having heard many stories of the Autobahn,
that there were so many areas where there were, indeed, speed limits.
But, on reflection, it did make sense that around major towns/cities and
especially work areas, that speeds would be limited.
Enjoy it while you can.

One day, I was 'cruising' around 100mph and was passed by a VW Vanagon... talk about embarrasing! lol
I have enjoyed several trips where I had 25-30km that I was able to drive unregulated. I have to admit though, I felt more comfortable 100-110mph. It takes a lot of concentration to drive at high speeds!

I agree with Buggin, 100 mph is easier than 120 mph. Especially when your on only 5 to 6 kilometer section that is unregulated. Speeding up just to slow down, it seems I can watch the gas gauge move. The mufflers sound good there too, not to much wind noise and a nice deep pitch from them.
BTW- Like the avator. I flew those too when I started out. Send me a private message and we can swap lies
