Default Stock diff from the Aero...

I wanted to check out the wear and tear on my original differential from the Aero that has 37k miles on it now that it is out.... so I popped the back cover and here is what it looks like....

Here is a close up of the spider gears...

And here are both ends of the side gear pin....

I rotated the gears around and could find no signs of damage or chips anywhere on the spider gears or the ring gear... can get at the pinion gear without disassembly... but it should look just a nice as the rest of them do.... pretty good for 37k and some track time... granted it is only about 45 runs....

nice....makes me wonder if I am wasting my time on the roadster since it won't see the track as much anymore....but, peace of mind will be worth it I think......besides, there won't be many with this setup...

Doc, that is also why I went ahead with my purchase....I plan on keeping the car forever and also didnt want to worry about blowing out the diff if I decide to go to the track for some fun.....

Yes, there is! It is on the car silly!
I bought a used one with only 11k miles on it and Unitrax did the install...I am driving with a 'positive' attitude now.....

Edit: No, I didnt open it up to take pictures for you....

Can you get a good picture of the saver pin? Make sure it hasn't backed out or sheered off.

I think my first diff did this, I never did find the pin. end result was this.

Surprisingly it drove fine like this, but i noticed a slight noise around turns when i hit the throttle.

Wow, those are some nice detail pics. I wonder if mine looks that good with 39k miles and lots of track time.

Here is a close up of the keeper pin..... looks fine to me.. but I have no reference of how far in/out it should be.....and no way to tell if it is sheared other than it was working fine when I took the diff off the car....

Edit: I remembered that I do have a reference.. the carrier that came out of my new diff that only has 11k miles on it. I just looked at it and the pin is the same on the 11k mile carrier as the one on the 37k mile carrier.... so all is good

That looks good to me.

Did you ever do burnouts at the track? or slip a little then grip at the start?

I still think my first failure was just a fluke weak casting, and the pin was never found, or maybe never installed from factory, but that seems odd to me.

I have heard of people tack welding the keeper pin, but if you ever have to take it apart again, Doing that can make rebuilds an issue

Yes, I do burnouts at the track....
When I started I went around the water box and did a little burn out as I was running on street tires... when I got the MT DR's I go through the water and wind them up.... I try NOT to do dry hops..

So I have a spare complete stock differential and a spare stock carrier with spider gears for the SRT6....
