Re: Paddle shifter install instructions completed
The paddle shifter kit is by far the best mod available for the automatic trans. Crossfire (IMO). The LM21 SRT6 pulley belt wrap kit comes in second....tied with the LM21 SRT6 SC pulley scattershield. ;)
I guess I'm a little biased though since I was treated very well and received excellent customer service on every product I bought from the seller. And no I do not receive a commission. :D |
Re: Paddle shifter install instructions completed
Why do you like the pulley belt wrap kit so much? Was the supercharger belt slipping?

Let me think about it a bit ... if having your horn available all the time seems important to you then I suppose this should be considered. Cheers, Chris |

Doing mine backwards. Chris said that these paddles are getting increasingly harder to get hold of as Mercedes are ceasing production of them. So I quickly snapped these up. Now just waiting for the new conversion kit (on the list) once available.<br/>Will still fit the paddles and pretend until the kit turns up lol |
Re: Paddle shifter install instructions completed
just reminds me I still need to move mine out further for my short fingers....lol. It is cool kit, but I forget I have them, being an old stick shift driver, I am always using the stick....

Re: Paddle shifter install instructions completed
May put a different wheel on in the future... It isn't a big deal. I don't really use them anyway. Too old school, used to using the stick.

Where is a good source to buy a set of these paddles?

I may be wrong 180, but I recall when I read this a couple of years back that Chris told the kit user that they would have to acquire the paddles elsewhere, he didn't have any to sell, just the kit that interfaced the paddles to the shifter electronics.
The paddles cost a lot more than they did when I purchased mine, they are approaching $200 a set now and where just over $100 when we purchased them a few years ago. Click for paddle search. |
Re: Paddle shifter install instructions completed
The best price right now for the paddles that I find is about $150 a pair shipping included from OE discount parts.com
The part number you want to order is 171-267-0046 |
Re: Paddle shifter install instructions completed
Thanks , $150 a pair is ok , how much is your kit ?

The kit last sold for $295. Even at that price, it was barely worth my time to manufacture it. I am hoping that I can keep the cost down on the next build to avoid raising the price. If you would like to be notified (at no obligation) by email when the next Kit release is imminent, send me an email (wonwitheverything@yahoo.com) and mention that you want to be added to the SRT6 paddle kit notify list.

Re: Paddle shifter install instructions completed
Just fitted my paddleshift kit and all I can say is that I am more than happy. Very professional kit that looks OEM when fitted. The builder Chris (Latemodel21) has been beyond helpful and with his updated pictures and instructions make fitting much easier.

I'll second that. just bought my second set, for the new 6, and Chris , as always has been, just the best to work with, plus his products are absolutely top notch. I've recently installed his scatter shield, and belt wrap kit, and both are certainly up to his high standard.
Thanks for the kind words guys. Great working with both of you. Being a frequent fellow sufferer of Mod-fever, I have witnessed, first-hand, the broad spectrum of quality and support ranging from bad to great (relative to available mods), and I have always made every effort to provide products that bring increased enjoyment and satisfaction (rather than frustration and disappointment). Having said all that, despite my efforts to provide great documentation and support for this product, I will be the first to admit that it is a challenging mod. and since this is the install instructions thread, I will add the latest version of the instructions. (in 2 parts since it now exceeds this forums file size limit : ) Cheers, Chris |

They are complete although there are a few more and/or better pics I hope to add. The Paddle shifter thread https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...dle-shift.html was getting long and much of the discussion has more to do with the history of this mod than anything else. So, I thought I would start a new thread with a PDF copy of the install instructions at it's beginning (so finding them will never be too hard). I am hoping that in this thread I can answer any questions that are not made clear in the instructions and in turn update the instruction pdf when it seems appropriate. I am continually looking for ways to make the kit easier to install and welcome and and all input. Constructive feedback on the instructions and the Kit is always welcome either here or in PM. Also, if you have already done the install and have any Tips you would like to share that you feel might help others, please post those here too! Chris Many thanks to: MMZ_TimeLord LantanaTX Bigkid & Rudy@speedriven JimmySkullz ImportLabSRT Jason_HBC 32Krazy! and others ... for their contributions both directly and indirectly to the content of these instructions Hi Martin, Glad to hear it is all installed. I am looking forward to seeing your install pics as you have about nicest crossfire wheel I've seen ! Cheers, Chris |

Re: Paddle shifter install instructions completed
Who has an unused paddle shifter kit laying around somewhere?
Did the ECU and TCU tune on my SRT-6 and installing a paddle shifter kit would be awesome. So,....any kits available? Give me a shout. Willing to pay the price,...;-) |
Re: Paddle shifter install instructions completed
I am making another batch of crossfire paddleshift kits (now), so If you would like some more info, feel free to send me and Email at latemodel21@yahoo.com.
Cheers, Chris |
Re: Paddle shifter install instructions completed
Wow
if you don’t already have the paddle shifter kit, get in line. The kit is easy to install, is a lot easier to use then the right and left motions on the stick and they look pretty cool. Its worth the money. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cro...f0eb03c1b.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cro...b96337ae9.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cro...d9b13d38e.jpeg |
Re: Paddle shifter install instructions completed
Since this is the "Paddle shifter install instructions completed" thread, I will add the latest updated version of the instructions. There are a couple of changes to the kit itself (to make it more robust though none have failed) and to make the install easier. I have also added more pictures and helpful detail to operations in the install that remain the same. SO, if someone is installing a kit purchased prior to 2021, they should still use the last version of the instructions (that can be found in post 180 of this thread), but they will likely find some useful added detail in the latest version linked below (which includes more than 50 annotated pictures).
follow this link to the updated install instructions ... https://drive.google.com/file/d/1K96...ew?usp=sharing Kits are once again in stock. Send me an email at Latemodel21@yahoo.com for more info. Cheers, Chris |
Re: Paddle shifter install instructions completed
These kits are very professionally made up and the instructions are very clear and explicit so follow them. Read them at least twice and get to know what part is meant in each step. If you want a kit get it now this may be your last chance.
I found that cutting into the back of the steering wheel was the hardest part as you want to make sure you do it neatly and in the exact spot described. You want it to look like it was put in carefully, I used a fine pointed Xacto knife and pushed it in just a 1/16” so the cuts all joined up following the template. I thought tracing around the template could lead to the knife going off course and leave a deep cut in the plastic. Cutting the rear of the console makes it a doddle to remove the ashtray assembly after you remove the four rear screws as the console can be sprung open to remove the ash tray easily. |

Re: Paddle shifter install instructions completed
Is there anyone in Connecticut who can perform this install for me? I’ve had a heart attack, heart surgery and a hip replacement. My hand eye coordination and left arm have been compromised and no way I can do it. I’ll pay you for your time. Many thanks.

Re: Paddle shifter install instructions completed
Got my paddle shift kit from Chris Messer this weekend, what a brilliant kit this is. Fitted it in just under 5 hours. Great instructions with detailed photographs. Best to get your tools ready and have a good read through the instructions first. Please take your time when soldering the circuit board and check with a multi-meter. Please contact me if you need any further details.
