Default Solstice GXP Review

I test drove a Solstice GXP at work today and my impressions were that this car is garbage...I was never a big fan of the look of the Solstice but I kinda fancied the design of the Saturn Sky version...The car feels heavy even though its curb weight is around 2800 something...The interior is the worst part about the car...Its full of hard plastic everywhere you look...Crossfire owners should never complain about our platics in our car...I did like the fact that thecar had XM radio and a multi function steering wheel that gave you control over the radio and also let you scroll thru different things...It has a cool feature that tells you how much boost you are running...It also let you turn off traction control or have it in competetive mode...The cup holders were better than ours...They were at least functional and had 2 of them...This car had a decent amount of head room and the noise wasn't bad with the top up...This car is a driving blind spot though...The rear window is a joke and the rear fenders block the side mirrors...Another thing that really sucked was the trunk...It opens in reverse and stores almost nothing, especially with the top down...If you ever considered getting one of these don't...

Good to read the review of an Xfire owner. The Solstice but more so the Sky always catches my eye but upon closer inspection I lose interest. The interior does nothing for me and I really don't like the stock rims GM put on the Sky. One thing you didn't really cover was the speed/handling - any input on those factors???

Very hard to find. I agree though, the hardtop is pretty nice.

I like the Sky over the Pontiac. We were scouting out RL Skys when we came across a few Crossfires and then went that direction... and never looked back.

I have come across the hardtop coupe on the road and it had a really nice stance. But it is my understanding the top comes off but no place to store it in the car, must leave it at home.

I always liked the exterior styling of the Solstice and Sky. Especially when they came out with the coupe (too bad it was discontinued right after it hit the streets).

But the engineering doesn't touch the solid quality of the Mercedes/Chrysler Crossfire.

Thumbs down Re: Solstice GXP Review

Sat in a Solstice coupe once before I got my SRT. I'll let 50 Cent keep his. I though the interior was worth a quarter, no more. Bob Lutz must have done a face palm when the first one rolled off the line.

Only thing it's got going for it is that there are only about 900 coupes. I don't think there will ever be fewer SRT coupes than Solstices but stranger things have happened.

I wasn't really that confident with the handling when I was driving it...The car really felt heavy and not that nible to me...I was never really able to get into a real comfortable driving position either...That may have been due to the manual seats and the avail two way power (up or down) positions...I'm glad I had the opportunity to drive the car because I was curious of how it drove...It confirmed that I made the right decision when I purchased my Crossfire...I love my Crossfire so much, I can see me one day owning more than one

I drove the solstice gxp when it first came out. Could not stand it. The clutch and clunky gearbox killed it for me the most. I stalled it at least 3 times when I left the dealership because of that crap clutch and turned around and took it back.

From what I've read the fit and finish it typical for gm with leaks and squeaks everywhere.

I like the looks of the Skye but it has even less trunk than a XF roadster. At the time, the 4-banger was a turnoff. I think the Solstice is just butt ugly from the front. Other than my old, square TR6 I like my Crossfires better than most cars I see. That, of course, excludes all the sexy exotics that are way out of my budget.

I considered a gxp or redline for a while. But the coupe took forever to come out. Also no aftermarket support and its hard to crack the ecu.

Before buying the Crossfire I test drove a Solstice. I liked the Solstice and considered it, but I found I liked and preferred many more aspects of the Crossfire: V6, Mercedes mechanicals, powered conv top, styling and a usable trunk.

I sat in a couple, I thought that they had no room.

A friend of mine up in Washington has a GXP Coupe and loves the thing. I've not been up to his place to drive it but I know they're pretty quick. The interiors though, as has been stated here, are junk. I've been in a few Solstice and Sky roadsters at auto shows and just can't get past that interior. If someone is looking for an inexpensive, fun roadster then the Miata is a far better car. And given the price of used Crossfires, you'd be nuts to take a Sol/Sky over a Crossfire Limited!!

Back when I had my Miata I would often come upon a Sol/Sky roadster at a stoplight, and I always took the opportunity to toy with them. See, both cars have manually operated roofs, but the Miata can be put up or down with one hand while sitting in the drivers seat. The Sol/Sky twins have to have the buttress areas of the top released by hand from outside the car before lowering the top. So I'd reach over my shoulder and raise the roof of my Miata, then just toss it back over my shoulder to put it down again. I'm such an ****.
