might need a Rear Diff
On my way home from work Monday I heard a clicking noise coming from the rear. I dropped it off at the shop and I'm sure its coming from the differential. I called today and they said its coming from the differential but they haven't had time to look at it and they weren't sure it it was shot or something they could fix. I searched the forum and saw some people are switching to a Wavetrac. So I have the following questions.
Can a differential be repaired or will I likely have to replace it?
What can i expect a replacement to cost?
Anyone that upgraded to the Wavetrac willing to part with there stock diff?
What does the Wavetrac upgrade cost?
Thanks for your help
diff rarely can be repaired
cost is about 1200$ for the diff plus install
wavetrac is the best most cost effective way to fix the diff issues
new oem is 3000$ used can be around 400$ but no way to tell how long it will last

I got my car at about 9900 miles and had the phantom grip company install their upgrade in my srts rear within a few months. This was for the elimination of the dreaded one wheel spin characterisitics our open rears have. Mercedes tuners (kleemann) use this design and some have said that they copied phantom grips development.
I replaced the rear with a wavetrac at about 20,300 and have the complete rear and phantom grip stored as a spare, though I dont think that I need it now. If your interested in this, let me know and we can discuss it. For more info you can see my gallery on the rear install and there are even some writeups that you could search on.
Enjoy, Woody

Woody.... I did the same thing... had my stock diff sitting in the garage and then decided that I wasnt going to be putting it back in so I sold it to Matt to replace his blown up 32 diff....
I still have my stock carrier with pinion gears if I really needed to take the Wavetrac out....

It did the job and prevented some wheel spin. Certainly one wheel was not doing it all. See.

BTW, they install the PG in the rear at the factory, I pulled it and installed it ( the diff ).
