Default SRT6 Vs M3?

My Buddy who has an 2004 E46 M3 (Manual) wants to do a little drag on a closed course this weekend against my Stock SRT. I know its probably going to be a close one, being our numbers on paper are very close to the same.

Any thoughts or Advice?

My only advice.....you have two days to get as much modding done as possible just to ensure a good spanking !!!
Good luck.

I don't think you should have a problem with a stock 04 M3. My old SRT-4 pulled M3's from a roll and that car trapped 102-104 in 1/4 mile while my a stock srt-6 will run at about 107-109.

The only thing I was Wondering about is whether to put it in 1st or just start out in 2nd?

The car won't let you start in 2nd......unless you put the switch to W= winter mode.

1st FTW!

numbers on paper may be similar - however isn't the M3 heavier? If so it should mean an advantage for you

You will win. Put it in first and do a nice launch. You have very close HP, but are 200 LB lighter.

I'm a road racer rather than a drag racer but I have learned to switch off the stability system on my car even for handling. The Mercedes system on these SRT6's cuts in much earlier and much more intrusively than my 2008 S2000.

With the S2000, firstly it has about half the peak torque of an SRT6. And the torque curve is skewed to the right and high rpm unlike the table flat torque curve of the blown 3.2L in the SRT6. So, it's much harder to break the rear wheels loose. Ergo, you see less of the VSA system. And when it does intrude, it will allow the rear end to slip sideways about 3 ft before it decides you're trying to kill yourself. There's an off button but the S2000 never really fully disengages. It's really just a less intrusive setting for the system.

With the SRT6 and my limited launching skills, I've found the stability system to be really annoying, jumping in early and really intrusively to stop the mayhem whether there's any mayhem going on or not. With the stability system off, the car behaves more the way I'm used to a rear wheel drive car acting. I can deal with a little wheel spin and the rear end scooting a couple of feet sideways much better than sudden and total loss of torque for what seems like eternity. Now that's scary. Especially mid corner when you're trying to use throttle to steer / drift the car.

One of the first things I do when I get in the car is turn off the traction control.

Easy win. Its manual. Which means 2 things. First there is more room for error and 2 it will not be consistent. Just go easy on the gas from the line and then smash and watch him fall back when he shifts to second. If he is a great driver well then....it might be close but you still have an edge. Stop Internet racing and get it done!

For sure I will!!! I've gotten word we will most likley do one from a stop and one from a 20 roll. But yea I'm gonna record it when we do it. I'll be posting it up by the end of the weekend

The BMW 6 speed tranny has very close spacing between the gears. I would often make a 2nd to 5th gear shift when racing. My best time with my 135I was faster than the SRT6 but the Crossfire is so much more consistent.

135i's are bad ***. They run away at hwy speeds. Trap 120+ with ease.
