SRT6 rear end out, need help
My SRT6 rear end is making a loud thumping noise and you can really feel it catching. Was really hoping to get some feedback on what others have done when there rear end has gone out. The dealer wants almost 5K just for the rearend w/o labor, and chrysler won't do anything even though it has only 16K miles on it. Thanks in advance for any help of feedback.
they are known to break the spider gears. Some have upgraded to a limited slip rear end which will replace the spider gears. Performance auto parts & aftermarket auto accessories for your car, specializing SRT4, Crossfire SRT6, SLK32, C32 AMG, VR-4 is now a distributor for the WaveTrac limited slip.
Thanks for the quick replys guys. I'm the kind who does just basic maintenance on cars. Can a person take that spare rear end and install the wavetrac differential in it. Then hopefully have a better rear end than new? I don't want it going out every 16K. Thanks again
geez - diff going out at 16K. Are you the original owner? Someone hooned the heck out of that car most likely - thinking multiple drag strip runs or very hard daily driving. Either that or the factory part was materially defective.
pull the diff out by yourself 2 hrs. ship it to unitrax and let then install the wavetrac its all they do. then reinstall it yourself. about 1600$ total plus your labor
What makes you think it will fail every 16k?
Get a used OEM rear end and you are good to go for years, this one you have was either faulty or abused too much.
The Wavetrack is nice but do you really need it?
Seems a lot of people want to spend your money or rob you like the dealer.

taking into account the cost for removal and reinstall can run approx 400$ and 450$ for a used diff the wavetrac looks pretty good.
Mine have never been to the track and just runs street tires (no drags) and mine stripped the ring/pinion.
I do have the 185 pulley and a EC tune but thought I was fairly safe without ever running really sticky tires....wrong.
I found a used diff and bought the WaveTrac package from Rob and it is now in transit back to me. Seemed like the best possible option at this point.
Since it has to come out anyway now is the time to upgrade and then wait and see what the next weak link is and when it breaks ...

I was going to offer our services, but you are a long way off. Here's the deal since a lot of BS has showed up. The weakest part of the rear end is the spider gears. That is what usually goes out, and we would have to know that for sure. Given it is the spider gears, you can do 2 things. Replace it with another stock used rear end. That is the cheapest way, or add the wavetrac for insurance that your driving style won't ever destroy the spiders again. Just so you know, spiders can be destroyed on ice/snow covered roads. I have seen rear ends blow spinning on slippery surfaces to dry surfaces. So, those are your choices. I like a strong rear end with both wheels pulling. I don't like open diffs for my style of driving. It is an expensive modification, but well worth it if you are hard driver. Your choice. Rob at Needswings has them, or you can go straight to the guys in CA. Up to you. We do installs, but we are located in Central Indiana. Good luck with your choice. Mimi...you are one lucky dude, but when we installed the wavetrac in the roadster, it was perfect. I do have spider gears in the box in the garage if anyone is interested.
Thanks everyone for all the help and advice. You guys are always great at trying to help people out.
Gonna go with an used rear end and the having the wavetrac installed. It's expensive, but much much cheaper than the dealerships (and hopefully a much better differential). Thanks again

This just happened to mine i'm still not sure what's the matter i'm gonna have to pull it apart on monday but the only thing that can be messed up is the spider gears ypur saying correct all else must be intact?
