I had a bad noise coming from the bearing so I bought a bearing from needswings and out it in and the noise has gotten worse. I've taken it apart and put it together 3 times and its not getting better.... Any opinions?

 

Is it near the clutch? Could it be the clutch instead? Is it the exact same noise with the new part? Maybe a defective part?

 

Bearings are rarely if ever bad when you get them, they are highly inspected before sale.

Mind you if it's made in China the previous statement may or may not be true.

 

Your old bearing, if it was bad, would be kinda noisy and spin freer in your hand than the new one. The new one should be quiet, smooth and feel kinda tight when spinning in your hand.

 

Also check to see that the bolt/washer is centered when installed...if it is a bit offcenter it may make some noise.

Mine definitely makes noise until the ECT hits 185, then it goes away. I'm going to replace the bearing as well (again), just to see what happens.

 

I believe a lot of bearings are damaged from aggressive removal or installation of the pulley. If one bangs on the pulley to get it on the SC, the force can loosen the bearing housing. Pulleys should be installed / removed by hand (without tools) once the bolt is off.

It might be from something else, does it change with the clutch in or out?? Take a screwdriver and put the blade on the casing ( non moving part ) and listen at the handle with your ear pressed HARD so that you get conducted hearing -direct transmission of the sound(s).

check the idler pulley and all the others it may not be coming from the SC. jim

 

Honestly, this is exactly what I think my problem is...going to get it changed again and make sure they do it right...

 

Okay, checked with screwdriver and it almost sounds internal..I can hear the noise from the idler and the sc pulley... I did however have to tap the pulley back on... Might have messed up the bearing again.

 

leave the hammers in the tool box...rubber mallet maybe, no hammers. If you clean the surface properly, and maybe put the pulley in the freezer for awhile, it should slip right on. I haven't had to use the freezer trick yet, but have on other bearing installs on other equipment.

 

Oh it was a rubber mallet! Couldn't bring myself to ever swing a hammer at my car

Putting it in the freezer would make the bore smaller, not what you want as that would make it tighter.

Freezing a bearing makes it smaller so it goes into a bore not onto a shaft, but you knew that, just a slip of the tongue so to speak.
