SLK32 AMG Engine Plaque...
My 2002 SLK32 didnt come with an AMG signed Engine Plaque....
Does anyone have a contact I could use to see if they would make me one up pro-rata from their files?
Willing to pay 100 or so dollars if that is required?....and assuming the tech is still in the company to sign it (or is it a digitally etched sign.?)
I'm guessing people ask for replacements...so maybe I could hook into that info stream.
The SC doesnt really have a sound place to fix it either - being entirely covered with cooling fins...but I'll find a way.
Come to think of it...I could probably get an engraver to do an unofficial one if worst came to worst - but no sign (unless I made one up).
Maybe someone could email me a hi-res shot of their SLK32 plaque.

From what I was told by AMG, they did not keep records of who built each engine for model year 2002.
I'd be interested in a "generic" badge, that just says "hand built", etc. Maybe their are others wanting something similar and we could have some made up and get a better price....

My Brother in law has a professional computerised engraving machine (used to run a shoe repair and engraving business).....if I have a couple of graphics - a clean copy/mod/hack may be possible...

now all I gotta do is see if I can find out who of the dozen or so mechanics... "handcrafted" my motor....? The it's as good as real...rather than a tramp.....
I wonder if AMG would oblige if I gave them my VIN&E#

Maybe you'll get a different answer...
These badges have been the subject of debate for a decade... and the OCD regarding them is rather comical.
If you're absolutely a stickler for accuracy and plan on entering your car in a Concours event in the future, don't do the name plate at all -- because all savvy AMG enthusiasts know the 2002 models did not have the plate. Once they find out yours is an '02, and it has a plate, they'll know a jig is up and the credibility you sought will be lost, even if the plate is "accurate".
If you're simply looking to have a plate that speaks to the car's hand-built origins when the hood is popped at a car show, and don't care which scribbled signature is on the plaque, then simply buy one and attach it to the blower. I can guarantee you that 0/100 onlookers will immediately pull up AMG's database and fact-check you. Most Americans are apathetic to foreign policy that can kill them, let alone the accuracy of an engine plaque.
The only people that will care are the bored folks on forums with nothing better to do. And chances are, they'll judge you for any mod you do to the car anyways. It's their nature to nitpick. But for every one of those guys, there will be 999 other people that will see it and simply go "hmm interesting" as they walk down the line to peer into a Corvettes engine bay for the 100th time.

I'm quite chipper, actually.
But I seriously see this debate pop up all the time. People want a badge for pedigree bragging rights, but are worried about one person coming along and identifying them as a poser. And the risk of that actually happening is incredibly low. Like, 1/1,000 low. That still doesn't stop most of these threads from turning into three-page discussions of authenticity.
The '02 cars didn't get a plaque, and AMG didn't track it for whatever reason. So, the solution is simple:

The '02 cars didn't get a plaque, and AMG didn't track it for whatever reason. So, the solution is simple:
- Fork over $100 shipped for a new badge (using a VIN from a 2003 AMG)
- Find a used one and pay half, since the new one wouldn't be accurate anyways
- Don't add one at all.
I'll buy a $100 one if I can find a website that sells them and... would show me a photo of the item I am purchasing - it's gotta be pwretty - the link below doesnt.
ha...I know what about a new logo that says.....my iAMG

I was suprised to learn the SRT6 was most probably borne out of the fact that Daimler-Chrysler bought out AMG in 2006.....
