Default Car and Driver bad review...

I just saw Car and driver on Spike TV.

They seemed to like the SRT-6 on the track but that was about it.

Let me summarize.

Likes:

Power
Brakes
New front bumper

Dislikes:

Ride (too rough for normal driving)
Fake suede interior
The lines that make the car attracive are cut short by a huge rear wing that is permanetly attached.
Only comes in an automatic
They said it was not a masculine car (as they focus on the ugly big wing)

over all they think seem to say that because the car has no manual tranny, has a very rough ride, has the big wing that destorys the lines and is not very masculine than it will not appeal to the sport enthist that would apprecate it's performance.

To me they seemed to be on the edge of the car being masuline already and with DC detroying the lines with the big wing I think it pushed them over the edge.

That has been the main Mag review .Bad wing. Why did they even put this ugly wing on the stock can go 150mph. ?The car doesn't even need it.The car should have adjustable suspension ,and probably will very quickly if it doesn't sell good.

You post is a little confusig - I am not sure if you meant that it did not need the big wing (which it really does not) or if it did not need a wing at all (like the roadster version that doesn't really need one).

I know that boat tail desgins are flawed with instability at high speed an they need something (yeah our wings probably don't need to go up until we are over 80 or so). When I first showed it to all the car buffs at work their first comment was the flaw in the boat tail design. They thought the porche like solution was pretty smart so that the lines would not be destoryed untill they had to be. I also remember hearing that Audi recalled all of their TT coupes and had to put spoilers on them due to this problem.

The wing sucks. If the stock car is stable to 150 mph, then why did they put the wing on the SRT ? Bad design ruins the original lines !They should have adjustable ride people that buy these aren't race track drivers and the racers can always add stiffer ride if they want it.

Their logic could be interpreted somewhat like: A driver looking for a performance sports car would probably be attracted to the Corvette or Boxster instead of the SRT-6. (Oh, by the way, $45K puts you into a used 96-00 Viper.) So that leaves the SRT-6 buyer as someone who's not looking for performance above all else; they would probably be turned off by the stiff SRT-6 ride. So the car doesn't really meet the needs of group A or group B. Which leaves who? Someone who doesn't really care about all-out performance and who doesn't mind the stiff ride and who really likes the Crossfire lines over anything else he can buy for $45K. I'm afraid that doesn't leave many buyers. I wouldn't be surprised if that's reflected in low numbers of SRT-6 sales.

The SRT Team has several successes in the SRT Ram and SRT-4, both of which sell like hotcakes. Of course, the Viper SRT-10 is a good seller. And the SRT-8 can't help but be a winner. So that leaves the SRT-6 as the Ugly Duckling or Black Sheep -- more than likely a short-lived sales loser.

I like the rear spoiler. In fact, I think it meshes perfectly with the lines of the car. Take a look from the side view, you'll see the angles going across the car flow perfectly into the rear wing. I only wish they would have made it move up, like ours does. If I didn't already have an xfire, or was buying one now, I'd definately go for the SRT-6. It's awesome looking.

Tell me theres no line..

is that front lip spoiler a separate piece, or is it an entirely new front bumper?

The side view? You can't see the spoiler much from the side the CRossfire rear end view is ruined by that spoiler ! As for the add on nose you can buy that now probably. The wheels are different but not as nice looking. The stock wheel in a polished twin spoke light wt. would do more for the looks.

I think DC. should go back to a more vertical headlight like the protoXF and then if would have room for a cold air intake ! Then next would be either a M.B. V-8 or a Hemi. Their wasting time with an old or left over AMG SC engine .Buy the time it comes out the new Vette will be out and Mustang. And 350SLK.

I don't care what car and driver says. I didn't like the way the wing looked in the pics, but I went to the local dealer and saw a black Srt6 and its BEAUTIFUL. I want an Srt-6 BADLY now Hopefully by June I can afford to get one.

For me, it plays out like this: German Sport Coupe styling, Powerful enough to do the 1/4 mile in the low 13s, and RARE. Everyone says "blah blah buy a vette". Well yes, for the price you could get a vette, but around here atleast everyone and their mother has a vette. The Crossfire, and especially the Srt-6 will be rare, unique, and still quick. Not to mention much more exotic looking then the vette in my opinion.

FYI in the UK Boxster & 911 spoilers used to come up at 80. Trouble is the speed limit is 70, ergo any Porsche with a raised spoiler was nicked. Now Porsche spoilers come up at 50.
