have alook at the latest posts of this thread....
need to know if the cluster needs repgorgaming to the VIN and/or car ECU or is it just a drop in and the ECU tells it all it needs to know (incl. total mileage)...etc...

JHM2K put new (SLK) dials in his NA and Rudy did some magic on them to make them work.

Use advanced search 'JHM2K' and 'Cluster'.

yes - thanks guys - I'll check with my indie mech. He may be able to do it ....for a small fee of course...

Regardless - I'm also counting on the mph cluster being configurable to the kph cluster....It should be - they wouldnt make these that different and drive their own costs up. The SLK32/SRT6 - different story.

At least the mph range (0-160mph) for the two vehicles is the same - I say this because one of the links refered to respanning the cluster to allow a180mph one....
Since - whilst the silk screened face is interchangeable as its only glued onto a clear plastic backing plate (it would be difficult to remove the silk screen film without wrecking it) the mph gauge would read wrong if you put a 180mph screen on in place of a 160mph screen unless you also had the span changed in the speed servo controller of the cluster - that's the main PCB bit. I suspect this might be a Star/DAS thingy.

So I'll have a go at the solder job - even if it means sitting down for a couple of hours with a soldering iron and using some shunt computer ribbon cable.

Otherwise - 32Krazy - I might have to PM you for a spare (0-160mph?) if I give up on trying to solder these ribbons back on. Whatever possesed me to tear them off...I dont know.

Least I know how to pull the entire cluster from an R170 apart (without breaking anything)...I'm sure that's a life skill I will cherrish....NOT!

Ignore this inept poster.
The SLK is kinfolk to the Crossfire and therefore we welcome postings about it. After all the info will apply to both cars.
