Talking Re: Forum under attack, from within!

Its kinda like a canker sore that is irritating, but you cant stop checking it out with your tongue.

WDY

**Canker sores are small shallow ulcers that appear in the mouth and often make eating and talking uncomfortable. There are two types of canker sores:

Simple canker sores. These may appear three or four times a year and last up to a week. They typically occur in people between 10 and 20 years of age.

Actually, no. They thrive off of their own sense of self-importance. They will argue with a brick wall and take pride in their victory. I'm sure psychiatrists have a more cogent explanation.

Oops, should I have used an en dash or an em dash or a hyphen? Was the ellipse really necessary. Praise be to thee oh God of Grammar, Pontiff of Punctuation and Sultan of Syntax. Please forgive me my errant use of alliteration.

Granted, this forum may be tame compared to others. And gonorrhea is better than AIDS, but still...

Nope, we're still here. Just been busy lately and everyone else is keeping in line. Plus I have my own thread in the General Section that keeps me occupied when i feel the need to express myself.

The definition of a "Troll" as I understand it is someone not related to the forum coming in with the sole purpose of disrupting it.

The last real troll I've seen was a GTO guy a few months back that was very disruptive indeed.

Presumable this thread is related the the recent "race car" thread.
There was certainly some smack going around on that one and I would offer a couple observations.

1) Post in the appropriate part of the forum. If you have a race car question, post in the race car section as you're more likely to get race car answers.

2) Don't internalize remarks from other fourm members. You don't know where they're at or what kind of day they've had. A frustrated (or drunk) member could log on and say something they wouldn't have on any other day. It's also possible to be thinking one way and typing another. Either way, don't give them any ammo. Just ignore it and move on.

I'll share a story for the hell of it.
I started a thread on the Vette forum suggesting a C4 Vette has better acceleration than a comercial airliner.
It started out fine with people considering 0-30 or 0-100 and so on.

A little later on a commercial pilot suggested the same and was getting into the engines spooling up and some technical stuff.
A competing airline pilot disagreed and the fight was on. These guys were going at it for 2 pages accusing each other of crashing more planes and casualties and such the moderator had to step in and shut the thread down.
Remember, these were seasoned professional airline pilots.

I think overall, we're doing pretty well here.

Well said.

I'm no detective, but I think you're onto something about the racing thread (because, well, there's literally nothing else going on that's worthy of a discussion besides intercooler R&D). Yes, there was some back-and-forth in that thread, but as best as I can remember there were no personal attacks saltier than PG-13. I know I personally didn't need a therapist after the discussion

My biggest caveat is that I can type fast, and I normally try to type complete dissections of my thoughts to keep the verbal volleyball match to a minimum -- this means I normally knock out four paragraphs at once. Sometimes it works, sometimes it fails. So I'm probably one of the "know-it-alls" he mentioned. I can live with that.

My points in that thread were simple -- driver weight can affect lap times, wheel and tire weight can affect responsiveness and rebound, and Forgestars are not $12,000 each set.

Those three points are universally accepted by 99% of people who have turned left and right with a helmet on. The last point is two clicks away on the internet. The resulting madness (which was eventually deleted by the OP) was three pages of him arguing otherwise. I wasn't the only one in that thread that got my hand bit when offering candid advice.

So yes, if that's all it takes to consider the forum "under attack", then let's break out the Kevlar vests. It's gettin' nasty

The only thing I'm peeved about right now is the onslaught of Russian bots that are posting in ancient threads and spamming up the forum. IB is supposedly working on it, so all I can do is wait.

All the best,

I have certainly done my share of annoying people. It is all in good fun. I love these people here! Even thirteendog! I get my chops busted everytime I post in here. Sometimes a little picking adds fun. It makes this place a little less boring.

Comming from a Vw forum to here was a big leap , I actually expected to be flamed on my first post with
"Use the search bar" or something like that , there's always flame wars in forums with owners of less expensive "tuner" friendly cars
Like Hondas and vw's because most of them are pre adolescent teens that take the fact they are barley hitting puberty to the internet and begin bullying others
But here It's a little different , most of the users are a little older and a lot wiser and prefer to avoid altercations , just answer the question and move on
All though i don't agree with people that always reply with "use the search bar" response I've got a better idea , either link them or push them in the right direction sometimes (people like myself and newbies) don't know exactly what to search so instead they post a new thread
I've gotten better at searching though
Point is , this is probably the better of all the forums I've been on and actually my experiences here before I got my xf made my decision for me , I was close to buying an Audi TT or a b5 s4 , I'm glad most of the members are helpful here even if they are having a mid-life crisis Lol
Btw, I've never run into these grammar ***** yet

I looked it up and the last word on the Miranda Rights card is "now".

Luckly, no LEO has ever had to read them to me and I intend to keep it that way.
