c.
Mine made so much noise up to 74 mph then it was quite,,I knew it was coming out for inspection, because, (of the V8),,,, that was the agreement when I got the wavetrac. anyway i had 10,000 miles,18 months, 127 runs in the 1/4 mile and 9899 miles of ******* the car,,( Note to Rudy) no failures during that time,on any part of the car.thank you Rudy for a great job. any way after all this ,i removed the diff. sent it to Devin, for complete tear down and inspection,, the wave trac was in great condition, but completely refurbished anyway,, the carrier bearing were fair but would only lastvery long if driven the same as before .Devin also found every tooth in the pinion cracked, the ring was ok,,, i sent a new set of gears to be installed, now with new gears and bearings, a newly overhauled wave trac, I have a brand new 307 rear for my car.
now to answer your other guestion," why do i need/want a spare 307 diff?',,will I need another R & P , don't know, but would like a few spares.
yes the 327 in in the car now with a new wavetrac,, a new tcu ,because the one I got from Eurocharge DID NOT WORK,. the one I have now works. thanks Rudy again.

the rear noise: I think because we are changing the carrier we need to double check the backlash, and the tooth pattern which was done on all of my wavetrac's,,the snap ring is the shim,,they come in different thickness ,this is how you set your tooth pattern,, with all the rear ends i broke with the 3.2 V6 ,I had plenty, plus I had to take .004 of of one to get it right. so far no noise.
Having some more work done but will be back on the road soon,, KC, and a ic cooler tank, exhaust, adjustable rear links all of them. springs front and rear,, weight balance. to name just a few things. JIM

Maybe compared to them, but I have been behind when the use was anything but light wishing I had a rocket pack on my NA to keep up LOL

5 days. I give you 2 to get here, 2 to get back home and 1 day for the install. lol.

Don't throw this idea out, my wife once won an airstream through ebay, THEN asked me, "Where's Valparaiso?" I had to drive my F250 7.3L with 36" tires to go get it. We made it back home in 36 hours. ha ha ha.

Can someone verify, correct the following rough numbers;

Used rear end gear box -$400
Wavetrac - $1,000
install - $200
shipping - $170 both ways

Total - $1,770

Thanks!

Numbers look good. However, I don't know what a used rear end gear box goes for.

May need to add cost for the rubber muffler hangers as they are a pain in the a$$ to remove so I just cut them off and the socket tool for the rear end drain plug (you may already have this though).

car-part.com lists the slk320 / c320 ( R170 ) 'carrier' ( differential ) from $75 and up ....
one lists the ratio as :
RATIO 3:05, O & I, NON LSD

Is that right ??????

Does Wavetrac need the differential AND housing or can I send them just a differential? I am sorry, I should just read through the very lengthy Wavetrac thread to learn some of this.

Unitrax (not Wavetrac) will need the carrier housing to replace your spider gears with the Wavetrac.

Thanks, I just got off the phone with Devin. Yes, they need the housing too, install is $225, unit is $1,100, seals, shims, gasket, total without shipping is just under $1,400. They do the install in one business day and send it back in the mail the next business day. 7-8 days down time for the whole thing I am guessing.

Sorry to hijack this thread. I am still interested in those that have and have not had noise and possibly why.

My suspicions that something wasn't right with the Wavetrac were confirmed tonight when all hell broke loose in the rearend. Car is down.

Oh crap! Not much to say Grip. Get er fixed and look forward and not backwards. Mine's not just right but I'm hoping it's right enough to last.

Thanks for the supportive comments. On a positive note, it rolls smooth as butter in neutral under person power.

Thanks. It's no problem being down. Hopefully I'll do some upgrades while it's in the garage.

By the way, I did a quick 0 to 60 in 80 degree heat today on street tires with no nitrous. Here's the results (no nitrous with me rolling into the throttle with spin). This was one of the nails that went in the coffin today.

Steve arrived this morning around 8am, and by 9am the differential was on the bench.

Anyway, here's the carnage. The Wavetrac might be fine, but the ring, pinion, and driver's side seal/bearing are toast.

YIKES !!!............so the wavetrac is far from invincible too. I know you have a spare but what is the long term answer? Rear from a C63?
