Noisy Wavetrac - Am I the only one???
I've had my fill with this noisy Wavetrac. Is anyone else getting a lot of noise from the differential after installing the Wavetrac? It's seems to make the most noise under light/medium part throttle.
By the way, I saw some old posts where Coyote and Less had issues. What did you guys do to resolve the noise?

But your wife's Wavetrac isn't under any stress, since women never drive their cars hard.
That's a wink to the left of this, which is indicating that daithi2's wife beats the hell out her Wavetrac, and if it can survive her, mine should be mechanically sound.
If your's isn't making any noise, it's obviously not a wear and tear thing, but more of either an issue with the install (shimming) or the bearings. I guess I could just add some dynamat to the hatch to keep out the sound.

agreed . just confirming who did his install. it wasnt a local inexperienced shop. fortunately for him if it is the diff itself he has a lifetime warrenty
Yep. That is true. Seriously. The coupe isn't babied by any means and the roadster has been to the dragon and back. If they were going to be noisy they would have been there by now.
Mine still makes noise. I had the shop that installed it open it back up, replace the bearings and check the pattern on the gears. It looked perfect to them but they adjusted it with the assortment of clips I bought to make me happy. Then I filled it with Motul 75 140 with no change in the singing. Mine makes the most noise at around 60mph. If street driving was my primary usage of the car I'd yank it out and sell it. For racing it's spectacular even with the opera of sounds from back there.

Well maybe the builder has an answer. I wouldn't be satisfied I do know that. I love them. Both cars are great now. I seriously probably would have sold them if not for the Wavetrac.
The noise is usually caused by gear loading and alignment. Its not likely that the pumpkin is capable of the making noise, its pretty inert.
Have you tested the noise,? light loading, hard slow left turns, and then right turns to see how side loading effects the tone or volume.
Also do the same with a coasting motion to see load, unload during left and right side load.
you can even do tests with the car in reverse in a large parking lot.
This will be useful in trouble shooting the cause - problem.

On mine the noise doesn't change swerving from side to side. It varies from accel to cruise to decell. Not louder, just a different sound. It's like the sound when the locksmith is cutting you a new key.

The noise isn't from the abuse. It made some noise from the first trip on the interstate. But, it's not getting worse, I already spent too much money looking for the source. (New side bearings, clips, remove, inspect, measure, reinstall) When and if it breaks it'll be shipped to Unitrax for warranty work.

So what is the best way to get this done on a daily driver, a four week vacation? I guess buying a spare gear set and shipping that would be better. How much total would it be to get unitrax to install the wavetrac + shipping?
I tried to get my Mercedes mechanics to take a look at my car and they didn't want to mess with it. The local chrysler stealership charged me $400.00 for things they couldn't even fix.

Jesse, doing this on a daily driver would be tough but I think four weeks would be on the long end of the time frame. Devin at Unitrax was able to turn mine around in one or two days. If you give him the heads up that you are sending it, he should be able to give you a quick turnaround.
Shipping from Louisiana cost about $85 Fedex ground with a shipping weight of 73.80 lbs. I used a very small but thick cardboard box. Make sure to drain the oil out before shipping.
Unitrax with the first group buy was charging about $200 for the install plus shipping. Not sure if that has changed.
I included a couple of links below providing more information.

In this link, I summarized much of the discussion about the Wavetrac. You will see farther down that I was corrected on a few of my comments but all in all it is a good starting point.

Good luck!
