Default Battery light on the srt in pigeon forge.

My car battery light came on last night coming back from dinner in pigeon forge on the srt.

It nixed my plans to meet for the ride this morning. Hopefully it's just the battery since its going on eight years old. I think I can make to autozone. I hope it's not the alternator. The detail shop sprayed alot of armorall detailing the car. Wasn't doing it on the 200 mile drive up. Light just came on in traffic last nite. Don't think it's the belt slipping since I didn't notice until after the drive up.

Hopefully it's a quick fix. If not I may need a rescue crew if I can find an alternator. It never fails that the car is perfect until until I drive away from my tools and home. I think it is jealous we are in town to see other crossfires and we have considered selling her.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I would never let a battery go for eight years. That is asking for trouble just as you might be having.

Replacing it before it gives you trouble is called Preventative Maintenance. Hopefully if it is the battery, it did not take out the alternator with it.

I have bought around 350 batteries in last few years. These were replacements on class 8 trucks. I've used all brands from interstate to generic reman units. I have learned that you never can depend on modern batteries. The warranty is nice on a new unit but I would rather not have to use it. Quality has gone down across the board. I know a battery has a usable life but I would rather run an older battery until it dies. I usually can tell way before it hurts the alternator by the reduction in cranking or cold starts.

I have to admit I've never run a battery this long. The Factory Merc battery is very good, it is due for a replacement but I hate getting rid of the great battery and ending up with the new duds everyone is making today. Funny, I pm engine oil, trans fluid, rear end, and looked at possible supercharger oil change but I don't what to get rid of my old reliable battery.

I just put on an alternator in the parking lot of Advance. I had make what was in stock work. I had the factory Valeo unit rather than Bosch. Advance's alternator that was suppose to fit does not. It will bolt up but it is the Bosch style and the main power wire is too wide to fit in the slot. I had to adapt by bolting in a short generic battery cable that would fit. You have do what you need to when your on vacation. I will trade for the appropriate unit that should come in tomorrow. I missed the Dragon today but I'm shooting for tomorrow. Hopefully everyone will still be around.
