airscarf? what a joke! its fails to perform even at a slow speed.
5.5 n/a? the REAL amg cars in 03 and above were supercharged 5.5 yours is in labels only . the performance is below subpar. the 5.5 n/a amg motor was outdated in 2003
proper navigation? try getting updates. again your delusional. buy a garmin you will come out cheaper in the long run
bluetooth? it sounds like your in a open cockpit of a 2 seater airboat.
you bought a nice car. but if you think you have some holy grail of amg's your mistaken. i have driven both , worked on both and can tell you first hand put your prada handbag in the pass seat don your d&c glasses and skirt on and put the top down. leave the high performance to the other guys because you will lose

you might want to check your attitude at the door on the amg forums they could care less about your n/a motor or your family truckster the r500

btw jhm2k when he had a n/a crossfire would stick to 13dog in the twistys all day long!

My involvement in the MB forums to date has been due to my R500. So not the first place I went. Don't know anyone in the AMG forums yet (24 hours). Thought you guys might be interested in a R170 / R171 discussion since you all own an R170.

Objectivity is a foreign concept here, eh? Once again, I seem to have disturbed the rest home residents. I beg your pardon. The aging Crossfire is the coolest looking and fastest car ever made much like its adherents. No other car can beat it in a straight line for 440 yards. All automotive engineers should just stop development work on any project they have underway. The pinnacle of automotive evolution was reached in 2005. There is no point in further effort. There is no way to climb up from the summit of Mount Everest.

Likewise, Jesus wept when he first saw a Crossfire roll off the production line. Angels sang ballads praising the beauty of the hump butt. Hairdressers rejoiced and gay men everywhere were excited as never before at finding a car they could claim as their own. Especially when they saw the Aero Blue cars.

There, feel better now?
In my first post here I was just trying to quieten things down before it got to the boiling point, I guess that did not work.
Hopefully this will be your last thread.

Enjoy the new ride, but please take your snotty attitude over to the MB forums and don't let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out.

We shouldnt waste our time on this arrogant, instigating loser. He's done this before and got himself banned, had to appologize to be re-instated...now since he's dumped his car he's got nothing to lose.
Mod's should know what he is all about.......lock this thread up and ban him now.

I've had my Crossfire for 6 years and have never had a bad comment(Always complements). Maybe all the violently negative reactions were meant for you and not the car.

Good Bye.

I hope you enjoy your new/used car.
I hope you don't have all the problems that two residents where I work and five friends had with theirs. One is now sitting on a buy here pay here lot for 19k and had been for almost 8 months the dealerships had to by court order buy one back. Sweet looking car and fantastic interior no doubt.

No need to reply

That's funny, twelve days ago you were still interested in a Crossfire SRT roadster, you sure are a fickle little f'er.

Wow, the rest home staff seems to have gotten behind on distributing the meds today. All sorts of lucid dreaming / delusions coming out of the patients. I was never banned. Or if I was, I was never aware of it. There should be a memo or something.

I was warned and severely tongue lashed over a thread I started a long time ago about the irony of our heartland Christian members being brought to tears over a tornado causing a small amount of localized destruction over the course of a few minutes while they cheer on political leaders who want 35,000,000 people to continue to have no access to healthcare every day. But that was it. I didn't apologize to anyone for anything. It did and does seem completely hypocritical to me that a few hundred dead people can elicit sympathy while tens of thousands of dead or suffering people results in cheering. Apparently the residents could not see the irony through their fogged spectacles any better than they can see what a Crossfire looks like to other people.

Yup, I was simultaneously looking at the SRT6 ragtop and the SLK55. I've said it in this thread and countless times elsewhere. I like the Crossfire looks. I think Eric Stoddard did a stunning job with the styling. Hell, I bought a coupe. And I enjoyed it. But in the end I decided to move on to something newer and better. And yes, the SLK55 is a better car all around. It should be. It's more expensive and a much newer design with a lot more content.

Why do you people have trouble looking at the Crossfire objectively? People hated the fvcking car. It was a sales disaster. Chrysler had to dump the very limited inventory in auctions to get rid of the product. Top Gear crapped on the car. Go on any other car forum and tell them you absolutely love the Crossfire. You'll get laughed at. These things are cheap as hell for a reason. But that's why the car became an incredible bargain to those who did like the styling and understood what it is.

Rejoice in your bargain but admit that this car just wasn't.....well.....almost anyone's cup of tea. That car would a Boxster or an M3.

And no I'm not fickle. I decided I didn't want to "settle" again, that's all. This time I got the car that will satisfy all my needs / desires for a daily driver in my environment. No compromises.

It may be newer but better is debatable. So you spent 4x the amount for the 55 in order to gain 0.2 here and 10 hp there? Wait till you see the price for parts and repairs. Seems to be alot of post on M/B forums debating the reliability of the SLK55. M/B has released a butt-load of updated parts to fix numerous problems. One of the major complaints...
The biggest problem is the gearbox though - it simply isn't up to the job and ruins the fun at every opportunity. Try manually shifting up on the redline and instead of punching home the next gear the box dithers, sending you crashing into the rev limiter.
Heck, they've even started threads on the M/B forums to inform others of the problems these cars have...
List Your Problems For The SLK55 AMG - MBWorld.org Forums

And nobody gives diddly squat about Top Gear and particularly Jeremy Clarkson. But if Top Gear means so much to you, then you must have seen their yearly episodes on the reliability ratings for all the cars they've driven, and how they consistently dump all over the M/Bs, which haven't done too well with the JD Powers ratings either.

I, on the other hand, based my decision to buy a Xfire on the episode of "Test Drive" where Tommy Kendall, a real professional racecar driver (and not some muted "Stig") while doing 140 mph in the Xfire on the Autobahn, took his hands off the steering wheel and exclaimed to the camera that this was the fastest and most stable passenger car he has ever driven off the track!

SOLD!!!

And they weren't laughing at us over on the G8 forums...

By the way, how about some pics of your precious 55, so we know that you're not just blowing smoke up our skirts..!!

I didn't spend 4X the amount for the SLK55. You don't have any idea what the swap cost me. Showing your intelligence by quoting figures on a transaction you know nothing about. But feel free to assume anything you like. You know what they say right?

And your don't seem to know very much about Benz products. The 7G-Tronic transmission used across the Mercedes line for 8 years now did have two issues early on. A valve body that allowed downshifting to first while moving that created harsh gear changes on the 1-2...2-1 shift. And a conductor plate parts design issue. They fixed those issues long long ago. But the AMG cars don't even use those parts. They use an AMG valve body and are hand built like the engines. So they have been dead reliable.

Likewise the hand built 5.5L AMG V8 in the SLK55 is proven design with zero issues. In fact in the SLK55 is in its least powerful and stressed form. So, the engine is way overbuilt for this application from a reliability standpoint. The SLK350 on the other hand uses a V6 that had a balancer gear driven off the camshaft that would self destruct and take the top end of the engine with it. It cost Mercedes a bundle to fix that issue. That 3.5L V6 was again used on most cars Mercedes made.

And the AMG version of the 7G-Tronic transmission in the SLK55 has three modes. Whereas most Mercedes that use a variant of this transmission only have Comfort and Sport modes, the AMG's also have a Manual mode. That gives you full manual control. It won't upshift or downshift without input from the driver. The one exception is that it will go into 1st at a complete stop. So the TCU tune that you guys are paying Eurocharged $500 for comes free on the SLK55. You really don't seem to know much about the car. But that doesn't seem to keep you from spewing misinformation.

As for you list or problems.....gosh......window seals in early production and a bad tweeter. I better unload the car now. As for the brake squeal, yep I knew about that. Not a design failure. It's a factor of the 6 piston calipers, the slotted and drilled rotors, and the high performance pads AMG used. The price of admission. And like your poster on the MB forum noted, it happens very infrequently. Perhaps if your knowledge was deeper than a 30 second forum search, you'd know things like this.

And if you can't afford to have your Chrysler fixed at a dealer, I can see where the prospect of owning a Mercedes would be a scary thing. Perhaps you should have considered a Corolla instead of the Crossfire.

But thank you for playing and please try again.

Pics maybe Sunday. Busy until then.

Really? Your entire decision to buy a Crossfire was based on a single episode of a TV show? And you were most impressed by the fact that you can take your hands off the wheel at 140 mph? You do this often?

You seem to have done your research very thoroughly. And your decision making skills appear to be impeccable. For this reason, I find your opinion invaluable.

I feel sorry for you. Tons of people drive a Mercedes. They're everywhere. Barely anyone takes a second look at any of them. Enjoy your obscurity and keep trying to convince yourself that you made the right choice. I'll still be smiling behind the wheel of my SRT-6.

So now you own a newer Mercedes. Why are you still here? Shouldn't you be over at MBWorld regaling them about your new ride?

Oh, and yes, that is my C63 AMG in my avatar............I like it, too, but I like the XF just as much...and I don't feel the need to diss the CF..........

Have fun on the MB forum
