Just found out I have a cracked front rim (srt6) someone suggested having it heli arc welded. Way over my head!! There don't seem to be any rims for sale so I am open for suggestions. Planning a five hr. drive to Carlisle in July. Will the rim last?

 

I wouldn't bet on it lasting, though it very well could. I had two cracks in one of my rims. I didn't even know it till my tire blew to pieces. When I went to get a new tire, they discovered the cracks. I had it welded by a local shop. Both cracks were on the inboard side. The welds weren't pretty, but they did the trick. Bite the bullet and have the crack welded, ground and the wheel rebalanced.

 

There are several companies that repair wheels, some even come to your location. The challenge has always been that the crack itself can be repaired within reason, but you don't know what condition the metal is on either side of the visible stress fracture. In other words you may fix the crack and the metal is still cracking on either side of the fix. The key is to have someone that refurbs wheels do the job not a refinisher, the challenge is finding the right people with experience and the costs involved can sometimes be a bit more than some want to spend.
