Default Making Front Wheel Spacers Fit and Work

I keep seeing the same question pop up asking how to make spacers work/fit over the lip on the grease cap on the front spindle. I ran in to this issue in 2008 and made a a sketch.

One thing-you must use minimum 10mm thick spacers to have enough material for the mod.

Hope it helps.

Screw it-search for

spacersketch.jpg

or

spacersketch.pdf

They are in my "new" user gallery-in the Space Age S...tuff folder.

Hey Maxichon, I know this is an old thread but I'm thinking of picking up 10 mm spacers and I am not quite sure what the drawing implies. When you have a moment, do you care to explain? Thank you!

He is showing the sizes that are required to clear the grease cap on the hub. People have complained that the hub bore (2.618 diameter) on spacers they purchased are too shallow and hits the grease cap.

Okay got it. So what should the diameter be? I bought 20mm spacers because I got them on sale. They won’t clear the grease cap. Is there a way to install them by removing the grease cap and then putting the cap back on? Or do I need to get them machines out? I’m kind of new to this whole spacer thing when it comes to European cars.

Get them bored out, do not machine anything of the existing bore, where it is bored to clear the grease cap could be a few thou larger or smaller though.
