Diff cooler anyone?
We are putting a Diff cooler on the race car and was wondering if there was any interest from from you guys in a diff cooler kit if it is available for sale?
The kit will include a tilton pump, setrab cooler, fan, and all applicable fittings and hoses. There will be no need to modify your diff housing in any way, pricing will be up to Rob at Needswings. As of right now we are working out all the details, and ours will be mounted sometime next week.

I've don't know if I need this or not. If the price is reasonable I'll jump on it just to be on the safe side. It really depends whether or not it costs less than a used differential.

Im just interested in seeing the final product, if it looks like a stock item I might interested (if the price is right) if it looks AM, ill prolly passed. Either way it sounds like a cool project. Granted the guys would benefit the most from this would be track guys.
Oh I'm interested in everything your doing, just suffering street car/race car paralysis, a disease you don't suffer from. I copied the face book photo and blew it up as large as possible for in depth study. Great job! Who's transmission tune do you have?

I have eurocharged, I need the ability to shift manually and hold the gear I'm in without up shifting. I tried the other companies TCU tune it didn't work for me and quite frankly they had the worst customer service I've ever experienced in the automotive industry.

That sounds like a great project, i was in to that idea my self but didn't had time to do it. If you have a kit I would be interested. Do not forget the zeitronix sensors for measuring the pressure and the temp.

My guess is that the external cooler w/fan would go where I already have my trans cooler, but I am interested in seeing how this turns out. My car is not set up for the road course or autoX....yet. Keep up the great work!
Does anybody make trans cooler kits for these cars? Im interested in one of them.
We will be sending our build details to rob at needswings and it will be up to him what he wants to do with them. I can tell you that our trans temps have dropped significantly.
I dont doubt it, my old camaro had an auto and it was a night and day difference for the tranny once I put a cooler on it.
Diff Cooler - isnt it simpler to just comit to chaning the diff oil with an 80W140 synthetic product every 10k miles? Or is there an actual temperature problem here which takes the gears/mechanism to an unacceptable life threatening temperature?
Tranny Cooler - this raised an interesting point - I was wondering if anyone doing a) 1/4mile b) track racing, has noted how hot their tranny gets?
What's the OEM spec MAX temp anyway?
I'm guessing if its an issue - then even more so if you wack on a pulley++ and up the 350bhp to 400-450bhp!
Improved cooling on an expensive item like this is where I'd be focusing my moula....

I made my own. I used a Derale universal fluid cooler and mounted a 7" slim fan on it. There is a inline thermal switch that turns the fan on and off when the trans fluid hits a certain temperature. I mounted the cooler on the driver side rear of the car, opposite of where the evap canister normally is (my evap can location now is occupied by a fuel surge tank).

As far as the diff cooler I don't have any numbers for that as we are still designing it. The main reason to run a cooler is if you are tracking or auto crossing your car. I can't imagine the average xfire owner would need one. The reasons we will be running one is diff are a lot harder to come by for this car than any of our other cars in our race program. That and for some reason the wavetrac doesn't seem to respond real well to heat. We just got our diff back from wavetrac and they said everything looked fine, but I can tell you that it definitely wasn't working the same as when we first put it in.
for that reason alone - maybe she's a worthwhile consideration.
that is...used differential + wavetrac + fitting and setup.....= $2,500 over here
