Default New gearing in my SRT6 - from 3.07 to 3.27 - Success!

Steve came over today and we had the new differential and Accelerated Industries (Rudy) TCU installed in less than an hour! Bam!! I guess we've had way too much experience swapping them out.

I've got to all the carrier 200 miles of break-in before I start destroying it, and I intend to give it the full amount. So far it's working without any CEL's and feel's very strong and shifts firmer. I ran it up to 80mph today, and the car showed no ill-effects from the change.

I'm really liking the TCU tune that Rudy supplied along with the gear-change modification. It seems to be shifting firmer and quicker, and I don't have an issue with that. I'll give it a real test in a couple weeks with a small 125 shot of nitrous.

For those that are scratching their heads:

- Crossfire SRT6 = 3.07 gearing stock (very expensive to replace)
- Crossfire NA = 3.27 gearing stock (very inexpensive and readily available)

I had my Wavetrac from my 3.07 installed into a 3.27 carrier with the 3.07 (SRT6) Yoke. This is important, since the Yokes are different between the two.

Rudy supplied the reprogrammed TCU, and it's functioned perfectly so far. Will this make the car any faster, I don't know. I think it will. At a minimum, I can now get inexpensive ring and pinions from a NA Crossfire for cheap whenever I kill another one. This alone will pay for the swap in a year or two if I keep destroying them.

Big thanks to the following:

- 32krazy! (Steve) for helping me for the 5th or 6th time either removing or installing a carrier. (Steve moved to first at his request)
- AMX1397 (Jim) for pushing me to do the gear change and advising me to swap the yokes out.
- rcompart (Rudy) for the modified and tuned TCU

Great news Anthony. You certainly had a good support team working with you. Get that break in period behind you and lets see how the new gearing preforms.

Thanks. I went with this setup mostly due to the economics of it, as opposed to the performance aspect. With that being said, it would be nice to see some gains at the track.

Yes, I'm using the NA carrier with the SRT8 Yoke. Hopefully it will perform at least as well as the SRT6 gearing.

Thanks Jim. I'm starting to think my 11.30 was a fluke, since my outing after that only netted 11.5's. Hopefully later this month I'll get it out on the track for some 125 shot runs. I'd be happy with some 11.0's, but even happier with a 10.99.

The 2004 differential is the one to stay away from if it is getting replaced right?

Definitely stoked to hear it all came together properly.

Will be anxiously awaiting the updated slips.

You racing in BB this month before it closes?

BB is running Buick GN's this Sat, but they are open on the 26th.

I wouldn't expect too much. It's a very small gear change.

I expect a better 60' and better 1/4 mile time. A 10th anyway.

I am thinking a good 1/10th...just a little quicker out of the hole means a lot...

Grip, please keep us updated. I have a set of 3.27's I was planning on installing with the tcu tune for next season. Is rudy the man we need to message with questions about this tune?

I wouldn't mind that.

Hopefully my already slippery street-tire launches aren't hindered. I didn't want to get too aggressive with the gearing for fear of killing traction on the street. Also, I wanted an inexpensive gear, which became the major factor.

Yes, please contact Rudy. He can also do 3.47's I believe. That would be your best bet if you're doing it for performance.

Make that 3.47's, not 3.55's. I corrected my post above.

Either way, that would really make the car act like a lot of my old bowties...meaning a handful, lol... I will give Rudy a call this weekend... I am out of work for another month, missing about 3 months altogether so, this may be a winter project, but I certainly would love to do it if your testing and Les' testing work out for you. Thanks for the update...I will always have the roadster to go high speed, but I would love to get some more out of blue in the 1/4/1/2 events...

You plan on staying with the same tire height for the track?

we did this in a charger so i know it will fit.

just in case you want a 3.91
first you get a rear,3.91 posi unit from a challenger off ebay for around $800.00 also
get the hubs and the axles,
from a cls get the rear mount bracket
drill a hole in your rear mount support for the new bracket for the rear to fit
replace the rear hubs, or re spline the axles for the crossfire hubs
call Rudy for the TCU

your done.
