Question defective Michelin's

I recently discovered all 4 of my Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires are defective. The tread is seperating just above the sidewall. They had ~ 18K miles of use, mostly hwy miles. The limited warranty is covering some of the replacement costs. Car is at the dealer having new tires installed as I write this post. FYI.

Thanks for the heads up, I have 60K klms (37K miles) on my fronts and 5K on my rears. It's my 2nd pair, got 35K klms on the 1st pair, so far no problems.

I had great luck with the Michelin Pilot A/S until I ran over something leaving a 3/4" hole in the tire. You may have just received a bad batch.

I would be curious what the manufacturer date is on the tires. Sounds like an age issue more than mileage.

I'd say you hit the nail on the head James. This is one of the first posts by the OP.
The relevant words.
I just put a deposit on this SRT6. It looks as new, has 16.5k miles. Charcoal interior, brand new michlens. I pick it up Tuesday.
8/9 year old tires? Possible they were not too new?

There are cases where the dealer installed tires other than the OEM Continental or Michelin rubber, my car was similarly equipped with non spec tires by the dealer after the first owner said he did not like the OEM tires fitted.
My SRT was refitted with Michelin all season tires. The tire I have forgot but they were worn out in the rear and noisy at the front. I think I have them noted in the original paperwork though.

DOT 4M N4 005X
DOT 4MCR 002X 1710
All tires were manufactured in 2010. I google them and read enough to wonder why there was not a recall.

3½ years is not a long time, unless they sat in constant sun. Still, they should last longer than that.

Could they have been installed incorrectly? They are directional tires. I had some dufus put some on the wrong way once. Unless you look you may not have noticed.

Are you sure that the tread is actually separating from the tires? If a tread was separating, it is highly unlikely that it would occur to all four tires at the same time. Especially since it would have involved defects on tires made in different batches/times (different size, etc.). There would probably be lots of others complaining of the same issue. Plus, if the tread were separating from the inner plys, at least one of those tires would probably have suddenly failed already. Are you sure you weren't seeing more of an issue with dry rot - where the outer tread and/or sidewall start to develop cracks along the circumference of the tire? That's a common issue with just about any tire in just a few years, though it is largely cosmetic. I'm still driving around on original PS2s that were manufactured in July 2004, LOL. They have so much dry rot that they look out of place on my nearly new-looking 04 (non-srt). I figure I'll replace them next spring.
