Default Mile High Horsepower?

Hi Everyone,

I am anxious to hear from other forum members regarding their quarter mile times at high altitude. I am curious to see how well my car is performing. I live in Colorado and thoroughly enjoy my visits to Bandimere Speedway! I have an 05 SRT-6 roadster with 59K miles and it's Very well maintained.

Prior to any mods, I was running 14.5's @ 96mph (consistently) all day long at an altitude of 5800 ft. After installing a Needswings DCAI, it came down to a consistent 14.3 and then an Eurocharged tune brought it down again to 14.2's. All of my best runs were after the sun was going down. I launch at 14-1600 rpm with the TC off and it always hooks. My question is, does that time sound right to you guys? Seems a bit slow for me.. I know high altitude is the culprit, just wanted to hear from you guys.....

This weekend, I'll be installing a 65mm SC pulley, new plugs and wires, an oil catch can and the re-tune for it from Eurocharged. Unfortunately, I won't be able to accurately "time" the new mods till next year because the track is closed for the season.

Here are my latest (and best) numbers from last August, is this what I should expect from the car? No SC pulley installed on these stats.

60' - 2.667
330' - 6.137
1/8- 9.254
MPH- 79.20
1000- 11.958
ET- 14.222
MPH- 100.08

I am curious only because I know our engines were hand built and there are some that came out of the box a little faster than others. Or.... I am just whining.... Oh, one last thing, would it be a good idea to replace the intake gaskets after the pulley change? I understand the stock gaskets may not hold additional boost well?
Thanks guys!!!

Find the nearest ocean, (with a dragstrip near by) and you'll be amazed.

I live at 4600'.
When I go home (San Diego) my cars are noticeably faster.
My coupe has always been faster than my roadster. Ran a 12.5 spinning through 1st and 2nd while in Phoenix (1100' or so) before any real mods.

All ya gotta do to go faster is move!

That sounds about right. We (Colorado Crossfire Club) go to Bandimere quite a bit during the season. The best I have been able to run is 13.5 @105. I have the 62mm pulley, EC tune, and dual NW CAI.

We'd love to have you join us next season.

Hello again,

I spent my morning installing the Last mods I'll put on my car. (yeah right...) I changed the plugs and wires, installed an oil catch can, a 65 mm SC pulley and revised the tune. Holy Cow Batman! Did that ever wake up my little "fury!"

I did want to share a few things with you guys/gals:

The plugs and wires are NOT fun to take off and replace. If you have big hands, it gets even worse. I had plenty of help and even employed my 9 year nephew to reach in places I couldn't. I was very surprised to see that all 12 of my plugs were in very poor condition at just 59K miles? There is no way they could have lasted 100K miles at that rate.... I know the oil catch can will help prevent this from happening (prematurely) again!

My stock SC pulley's bearings were shot and very noisy. I decided to try out a new smaller (65mm) SC pulley to see what all the fuss was about. Ummm, it's fr*****g AWESOME, and relatively easy to change out. The re-tune takes 10 minutes and is extremely easy to do with EC's Euroflash software.

So, for 4 hours of patient work I ended up with a car that idles so well I thought it stalled out at the first two stops I had to make. I couldn't believe the difference.... The throttle response has improved and when you step on it, everything changes. The flat torque curve I was so used to is GONE! Replaced with a series of "turbo like" surges that pull like hell! During a few test runs this morning, most power kicked in @ 2000rpm and just kept pulling through the top end of 3rd! 2nd gear is just as fast as 1st Amazing difference! It's almost violent now so it will take some getting used to. I am sure I will. lol.

I can probably stop whining about altitude now as my car seems to have adjusted well to the new mods. I am anxious to see what really happens to my 1/4 mile times!!!

For those of you who have these mods, I have a few questions? What does the pulley and tune do to your mileage? Did you have similar experiences with your cars regarding the "new" power surges?

Thanks again!

Having never lived (or driven) at altitude, that's very suprising.
14.5s and 96mph at altitude......wow....that's only 215bhp.....from a car that is supposed to do 330.

Amazing....head to the ocean!
there - You should get <13s and >100mph in stock format.

L8tr....apologies 254bhp
from here at 3500lbs weight
strange
if you enter 14.5 & 3500lbs it gives you 227bhp

I have 1 tuned with a 65mm and 1 tuned to a 62mm... I get 24mpg for the most part. I am not at 5400 ft, more like 800-1000ft....so I don't know how altitude changes that. I have modified manifolds on both mine as well. Hope to do a rear end change sometime before summer...spring hopefully... I think your times are good compared to Isky's 1st runs ...
