Needswings DCAI
[QUOTE=oledoc2u;785334]It's your cars, do as you wish...I won't. Racing full time is one thing, but mine are driven to shows all over the Midwest and I want a good filtration system that still gives me the performance. We proved long ago the old velocity stacks, open filters, were actually robbing us of power rather than letting in more air to produce more HP. A high performance filter will accomplish the same goals and still provide protection from the elements. I ran a lot of open carbs in my day thinking I was making HP, and sucking in who knows what into to those motors. I got old and wiser. Well I got old and computers and dynos made me wiser....[/QUOTE
I'm sure the Doctor knows best. I used to run velocity stacks on my bikes for a time. I never thought I was getting less grunt. It's nice to have dynos around to find these things out. I was probably sacrificing some low end torque with my straight pipes too. Sounded faster. May be the same deal with the green foam.

I had a normally aspirated Crossfire. I built my own cold air intake. The hardest part was finding a silicone elbow that worked and fit properly.
It seemed to work well.
I purchased an SRT that had a single needs wings intake.
The quality was very good. I decided to upgrade to the dual tubes with the larger filters.
I could have built my own, but I felt the quality was worth the price. Using the needs wings set up also eliminated any guesswork
As a person, Rob was very easy to deal with and answer any questions I had.

brian you well know its only 3" after the radiator support. the intake section is tiny unless opened up. also the double 90* bends disturbs the airflow

I don't know best, just a lot experience with trying to makes things faster. I run shorties on my Harley Fatboy, and lose a lot of top end. But, it's a Harley, if I want top end, I need to go back to crotch rocket. I learned a long time ago, the filter manufacturers were actually looking out for us, and they do protect the engine without taking away performance. That had to proven to me. I was stubborn to give up the open concept. Now, a diesel is another story about wanting plenty of air...with the turbo. But again, I run a good proven filters in the rig as well. Like a stated, you can build something close to a Needwings product, but I saw his and Woody's dyno numbers and the trial and error of that build. That convinced me to pony up the $$$$$ and run the best.

Are you talking about the double 90* bends from the filter to the radiator support openings on a NW intake?

The numbers for the 55 intake and dual Needswings are very close. The Needswings flows just a bit more. This was done way back when, Woody and Rob introduced the dual over the single. I read and learned before I moved up to the dual. I considered the 55 set up as well. Again, unless you are "all in" with your mods, you won't know the difference.
True - but the radiator support openings are the same for any crossfire using any intake. (once the stock couplings are removed.) We all know that one must cut and widen the opening on the divers side to gain the needed clearance to match the passenger side.

the 90* is the path of the air thru the air box fro the bottom of the box up thru the filter into the t/b
the factory opening has a trap door that is very restrictive and has to be removed. this gives you the 2 3/4 on driver side and 3" on the pass side. the plastic ribbed tube also disturbs the airflow

talking flow restrictions. Ribs are restrictive, sharp turns as well. Anyway, when the numbers of the flow bench used by Rob was released I remember the dual a less restrictive from the 55 intake. But not by much. You won't notice the difference by the seat of your pants.
Old thread, but relevant rather than opening up another thread.
I was expecting to be able to hear the supercharger whine quite a bit during WOT. I barely hear it with this new NeedsWings DCAI intake I installed. But I see someone asked that earlier in this thread and that's normal. No biggy. I am just "Okay" with mine. I mean, $800 was quite a bit to chew on for what is actually included. But then again there really isn't any other DCAI out there on the market. So I can understand the high price. I took quite a few pictures of the install and some other things. Will upload those this weekend.
Major gripes I had was the mini clamps for the new PS lines. They were too small. Had to get some HD stainless wide worm clamps at the hardware store to stop the leak since I re-used the factory ones along with the $28 PS fluid. One of my filters was damaged in shipping a tad. Probably due to such a small box that is used. The elbow before the air filter is painted black. I believe it literally only has 1 coat of paint. I barely rubbed my hand against it when moving it around and I noticed a bare spot from it. My finger nail barely nicked it and off came the paint. Went to another spot and noticed I could literally scrape the paint off with my pinky finger nail lol. Horrible job for a $800 intake. The drivers side area where the 2 -3/4'' rubber gates pipe goes was funny. Barely fit through. Hopefully it doesn't damage the cable/wires and radiator line that it is pressed up against. The rubber Y pipe has a super tight clearance too up against that plastic firewall wire holder thing. Also pushed up against the plastic brake booster line. Factory piece doesn't even have a hose clamp on the throttle body. Plastic tabs were used instead, probably due to clearance. Boy that was hard to find the right angle to get that hose clamp on that small 1/2'' area on the TB.
All in all I am just okay with my $800 intake. Just my opinion you guys. It does look pretty darn cool. Don't really notice anything in the power department. I should definitely be able to feel the claimed 20-30whp on my bone stock SRT-6. But don't.

I'm surprised that you don't notice the supercharger whine. When I put on my first single intake on the '6, that was the first thing I noticed and I thought something was broke.

If you want your blower to make a louder whine, your gonna have to swap out the pulley.
I will get a video of a WOT driveby. Seems half and half from what I hear from others. Maybe removing the hood insulator would help too.. I got my UltraGauge the other day, going to see how much PSI I am running. How much should I see? 12-14?
Without different pulleys you should see 14.5, I believe that is the stock specification.
