Could be, I have the same basic tranny in my 300 and it did this. In that case it was a sticky solenoid.
The failed part can be replaced, do not let them change the whole plates, there are two plates that make an assembly. My part was done under warranty and they changed the part, others here have had the whole plate changed.
When you are paying they do the expensive repair, when they are paying they go the cheap route.

Check for leaks around the electrical connector plug. My car was doing this when the fluid was low from the leaking connector plug.

Yes, I was also thinking this. Can we assume that you started with the basic troubleshooting of checking the proper trans. fluid level?
I haven't had chance to look at anything yet. but will start will the fluid.
Well, looking like a more serious problem than just fluid levels :-(
It has got a bit to technical for me! but basically 1st and 2nd gears are shot, the torque converter is shot and the oil pump has failed which probably caused the problem along with maybe to much right foot abuse!!!
It is stripped down awaiting part for a re-build! cost £1500 :-(

Yes there are a couple about but you don't really know what you are buying!!! at least with having the original re-built I am getting a 12 month/12000 mile warranty.
