Accelerate quite hard, revs got high, box does not select any gear, goes to neutral tho gear indicator is still on D. Stop turn engine off, restart all is fine until hard accelerate again!!!!!! and it does the same again, at one point was stuck in 1st gear box would not change up!!

My first thought is it is the dreaded Limp Mode feature in which case it would be probably be stuck in second. This feature is to prevent damage to the transmission while you drive it. The problem is generally to be found in the electrical or solenoid plate. Speed sensor or solenoid failure.

Could be, I have the same basic tranny in my 300 and it did this. In that case it was a sticky solenoid.
The failed part can be replaced, do not let them change the whole plates, there are two plates that make an assembly. My part was done under warranty and they changed the part, others here have had the whole plate changed.
When you are paying they do the expensive repair, when they are paying they go the cheap route.

Check for leaks around the electrical connector plug. My car was doing this when the fluid was low from the leaking connector plug.

Yes, I was also thinking this. Can we assume that you started with the basic troubleshooting of checking the proper trans. fluid level?

I think this member would know about low fluid, you have to loose a lot to get to this state. Puddles would be everywhere you went.

Well, looking like a more serious problem than just fluid levels :-(

It has got a bit to technical for me! but basically 1st and 2nd gears are shot, the torque converter is shot and the oil pump has failed which probably caused the problem along with maybe to much right foot abuse!!!

It is stripped down awaiting part for a re-build! cost £1500 :-(

Yeeeouch ... that's pretty severe damage/abuse. For what it's worth, mine was doing the same thing when I first bought it and it had 85K miles on it. The dealer found a stored code in the computer but didn't see any signs of damage so they suggested we change the transmission fluid since that is suggested maintenance at 70K miles. Cost $500.00 (US) and it has never done it again.

Sorry to hear. Is getting an entire tranny at salvage a possibility? Cheaper? Good luck.

Yes there are a couple about but you don't really know what you are buying!!! at least with having the original re-built I am getting a 12 month/12000 mile warranty.
