I'm always amazed when I see these things
I can't even imagine a squirrel crawling all the way through the air duct from the grill all the way up to inside the airbox and making it home

You've got to stop driving through those corn fields.

Mice like to eat the air filters too.
That is when they aren't using your muffler as a food storage facility.

+1 for mouse.
U might want to look around for a mouse nest just in case they can in places you would not imagine.
Had a guy tell us one day when he was late for work he was having problems getting his truck started, and it was a king snake wraped around the air filter.

I had a 2000 Range Rover. At some point an acorn fell into the fresh air intake.

Had used the dealer service dept since it was new, and they had a good Service Manager that I trusted. He always took good care of the customer.

He left, and the dealer put the lady that did inbound service ticket write ups in as the new Service Manager. I never liked her, she always had a bad attitude. This 'promotion' was way above her abilities.

When the moron service tech changed the cabin air filter, he let the acorn fall into the fan squirrel cage. When I left the next day and turned the AC on, the acorn broke several blades out of the fan.

The new Service Manager said it was my fault for parking under an oak tree!!!......and the cost would be ~$500 for a new fan install. I pitched a fit, and they said they would do it for parts cost alone. I should have kept going up the chain, but I had it fixed and never went back. In fact, I sold the car and decided never to buy the brand again since warranty service was unreliable. (and with a Land Rover - good warranty service is a must! LOL)

I'm glad the XF has a garage to live in...

Our air inlets are too small of diameter for Fox Squirrels and Grey Squirrels. Just right and cozy for Ground Squirrels and Flying Squirrels. If you had a NeedsWings single or dual cold air intake you wouldn't ever have this problem. Squirrel Crusher

I picked up a '63 Corvette a few months back, barn find, that had a nest of red ants in it, thousands, and a bunch of black widow spiders, three times I put four bug bombs off on the inside - afterwards, I found a bunch of dead ants and spiders - but the big surprise came when I pulled the carpet out, I found a big rat, still alive, not moving very fast (easy to catch) but alive. That was after 12 bug bombs and the inside of a '63 Roadster (with the hard top on it) isn't very large.

I guess everyone needs a home.`

23 years ago my Nephew and I had a used car lot where we would fly down to Florida and buy mostly Pick-up trucks and Conversion Vans, and ship them up to N.E. Ohio. 30 to 40% of the Vans we purchased had cockroach infestations so bad, they had to be professionally gassed by Orkin. Some vehicles needed two and even 3 treatments to get rid of the little buggers.

Filters looked fine, I think the little bugger was just storing his corn there.
