Default Africa

Bet you didn’t expect a post from Africa. Well I am currently in Africa, Algeria exactly, middle of the Sahara. Our oil field is located 31º 00” N, 8º 15”E. Number 3838, SSB, awaits in our garage on Amelia Island, FL . I get back to the States on Friday 30 Oct., first trip Saturday morning, in the Xfire, will be to the barber shop.

Well the first post from the Africa forum has happened sooner than I ever expected. Just wondering, what exactly do you do in the oil business...?

I work for an American, Houston based, Independent Oil Company Anadarko Petroleum (no refining or marketing, nothing down stream).
Currently we are producing 260,000 barrels a day. We have two rigs drilling development and exploration wells (+-3,400 meters).

I am the materials / logistics manager for the operation, our current inventory of stock is valued at $70,000,000. Obtaining and planning for material and equipment delivers +-6 months, is a challenge indeed.

I spend every other month on the job and enjoy Florida and my toy 6 months a year – but the six months I am home are quality months.

You can probably well afford a much better car than a crossfire then!

Whew – where did that come from –

ASSUME = *** - U - ME

What one can afford, desires or enjoys is a "personal thing". By the way my last name is not Anadarko.

Was only joking. Most people in the oil industry are quite well off. Sorry if I offended.

Not really, I think it is a Kansas operation. My domestic experiences were in New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and North Dakota. The past eighteen years have all been overseas in garden spots like Gabon (6.5 years), Tunisia (3.5), Yemen (1) and Algeria (8). I worked for Tenneco, British Gas and Anadarko respectively.

Yes, it's a Kansas City, Missouri company. Just wondering because I know someone involved in it.

So do people hate Americans there? Do you fear for your life? I salute you as these types of jobs make us regular people seem like boring lemmings.

Sorry, it has taken so long to reply, back at work. No the locals do not hate us, as a matter of fact when you spend so much time together, it is like family. The major issue with a job like this, work a month and off a month, is the constant state of jet lag. We have plenty of security and our location, so far into the Sahara makes it very difficult for a stranger to get close - no place to hide, nothing but sand dunes.

Hi guys, sorry i'm a bit late to the party. I live in sunny and gorgeous Botswana, and am proud to have the only SRT6 in the country. It's still quite a head-turner. Black convertible and get this... an '06. Loving her to bits. Will upload photos some time.
