Air Intake Density Ready Reckoner...
I put this together based on Ideal Gas Laws PV=nRT....or more correctly....
Density=
absolute pressure x molecular weight of air
---------------------------------------------------
Gas constant x Temp
Or in US terms....for psi and degF
(boost psi+14.7)/14.7 X 28.5
------------------------------------------
0.028206 x [(degF - 32)/1.8 + 273]
except the answer is in kg/m3...but lets not argue about that just now....
from this I generated the following chart.....
Now...how does it work I hear you say?.....
For your WOT status
You put a spot on the chart where you "were" before you mod.....
and you put a spot on the chart where you "are" after the mod.
Draw a line from one to the other...
Every colored line you cross from one to the other point is a 3% increase in density = more GG's
I have a line already dotted between some "guesses"....
140F and 14.5psi (approx. standard OEM spot)
and another dot at
170F and 21psi ...possibly closer to a stacked solution figures....
working from one dot to the other...you cross 5 and half lines....= 5.5 x 3% or about 16.5% more density.....
drawing a long bow (all other things being equal)....16.5% x 300rwhp = ~50rwhp gain.
Why do you ask?....
Well our other mate is running up near the 200F at 21psi....
Working through the same process and you can see he's only crossing 3 and 3/4 lines...= only 11% density increase....(not to mention timing pulls etc..)
So - Same psi - different outcome.....
Keep cool!......
