Pulley Shims??
OK- got a 65mm S/C pulley from a guy in Poland - one of a couple steel had stashed away. Did not get any shims with it though- do I need shims? (Stupid question I know).
Thanks,
Shawn

The Poland pulley does not need shims.... You will have shims on the stock pulley.... As usual the Canadian is opening his mouth about something he doesn't own nor has ever installed himself. That pulley is suspect as well for failure. I would buy the scatter shield to protect your hood and belts... If you need anything, PM me... I no longer care to partake in the everyday misinformation given out here.... I just couldn't resist today... I will pray for forgiveness later...

It is certainly nice to know someone in Poland has managed to accomplish something that escaped AMG, and that is to foresee all the manufacturing tolerance accumulations that necessitated the use of shims on their pulleys in the first place.
Presumably this Polish pulley is a dead ringer for the OPs pulley although another pulley was used to manufacture it.
We know that the other after market pulleys most often needed additional or less shims to obtain the required gap during set up. One pulley even had to be driven some miles before it could be set finally, a set up I questioned at the time.

Solid pulleys bolting directly to the SC rotor presumably would not need shims.

Wow Doc. How do you know for a fact that the Polish pulley does not need shims?
I've installed four different pulleys on my SRT6 and every one came with shims except Rudy's 62mm which had the front spacer washer so you didn't need a shim.
Hello Shawn, I have that same steel 65mm supercharger pulley installed on my rescue roadster (in fact I'm the one that suggested you contact "J" to see if he and any more of the hardened steel 65mm pulleys). I have it installed using the single shim from the OEM pulley. You'll have that shim when you remove your OEM pulley.

I do not think what I said differs very much from your usual ambiguous statement, depending how one interprets your statement that is.
Thanks, I guess the condenses is - probably no additional shims. 'J' seems like a pretty conscientious guy and as I was a Tool + Die Maker in the far past -I know It appears to be professionally made. Thanks.

Hello,
Not to open a can of worms here... I have a code3 to install and want to make sure I have extra shims if required.
Most of you on here have way more experience, so, would these shims be the proper size if required.

I do run this pulley from poland on my slk32 longer than a year. no shims, no issues.
proved on some longer runs up to 170mph+ on the german autobahn - of course until the ecu shuts the sc off
be sure to get the steel pulley.

I think the 5.5 pulley is bigger than the 3.2 pulley, the bearings are larger so the id of the washers in the eBay ad are to big for you.
Thanks for your help, that is what I thought as well but could not confirm.
I will be doing the install this weekend hopefully. Once apart, if I need extra's I will hit up a shop that does diffs and such and see if they have the size I need.

You are still full of **** 180. My cars are fine. The Poland pulley doesn't need any. If you want to run the 1 shim, it won't hurt anything. So kiss my USA *** 180. As usual, you sound like you know it all because you read too much. Get your hands dirty and do something. Just make sure you bought a steel one from the Poland supplier.

You do not know why shims of varying thicknesses are required on some and not others that is the problem. Your grasp of mechanics is pretty slim. No doubt you were better at handing out speeding tickets than advice on cars.
