Roadracing question.
I will be taking my Crossfire SRT6 to a road track soon. The race takes around 30 minutes. This is the first time with this car. Anything you "twisty racers" think I should know?
Hi Franc, long time..
Yeah, Good to see you also. :thumbs up!
Twisties are simple. Keep in the lower gears and engine revs up. Keep the wheels spinning (stay off the brakes) and manage your momentums (on all axis), not your throttle.
Said simply "Go hard or go home!"

30 minutes ……. new brake fluid Dot 4 or better. I use Motul RBF 660. Stock fluid isn't bad when fresh. The stock brakes are very good but the front pads will overheat and wear out if your pushing it at all. Stock pads in the rear are fine. Please find new pads for the front that can take the heat. You'll need to bed then in before going to the track. It's important. My car never ran hot when stock. You shouldn't have that sort of problem. The front tires are going to roll over because the stock bushings allow several degrees of motion side to side. You will wear the outside edges no matter what. I started at 33 psi cold with street tires for sprints. For 30 minutes I'd consider 30 psi. I've run up to 44 psi trying to save the tires. It won't help them live longer and they will slide more. My best advise is to go with fun first at the fore in your mind.
Really, brake fluid boiling or the pads overheating is what ends the majority of first timers track days prematurely.

Thanks guys, great driving/tech advice I've always been a twisty guy that buys twisty cars but I have never taken any of them to a "real race track" I've always preferred compression to brakes but it sounds like an upgrade would be prudent. I put ceramics all the way around on my Maserati, I'll do the same on the SRT6. While I used Ate 200 fluid, I'll try the Motul. BTW, the track is California Speedway. It looks like a road course within a Nascar setup. However, this group also uses Willow Springs which is a real road course.
