Default Intercooler Malfunction

Well, at 98,000 miles on the SRT, it finally happened. I took the intake manifolds off this weekend, to replace gaskets on the mini-valve covers. I had gotten the manifold pressure Check Engine code so I was going to replace the manifold gaskets and the manifold temp sensor. So as I pulled the intakes off I saw the orange slime......
So before I tear my s/c assembly off, what are my choices for intercooler replacement? I see Needswings has units for $1300, ouch. I have been off the forum for a bit and a search didn't turn up much, so assuming there has been no proper fix or replacement? I think I read that the Killer Chiller had good results but ultimately replaces our heat exchanger? I didn't find any used on Ebay right yet so I seem to be up a creek searching for a makeshift paddle, lol. Any knowledge or help on the matter is appreciated. cheers

Rudy was making them, maybe they are the NeedsWings ones. I am not sure on that fact though.

Rob's are new factory parts. Speedriven has an upgraded intercooler which I believe is the same as Rudy was selling a while back. Those are the only options I know of. Usually the leak is of the pinhole type and perhaps could be fixed with some radiator stop leak.

I wouldnt put stop leak anything in any vehicle, that stuff does more damage then good in the long run. OP really only has one option, put the car up until he can come up with the funds for a new IC.

Wow! You have a big job ahead of you with this leak. Rob sells the origional equipment made by Garrett which is made in Mexico. Garrett 720706-0002 and Chrysler A 112 500 0000 Are the same intercooler. Rcompart (Rudy) makes a after market version. Either one works well. If your going to keep your car, then purchase Rob's coolant isolation kit. It will seperate the engines coolant from the superchargers coolant. Your new intercooler will last longer this way. The engines coolant is alot hotter than the heated coolant that the supercharger makes. The brittle aluminium of the intercooler doesn't get as hot and expand as much when the coolant is seperated. Rob(NeedsWings) has everything in a packaged deal to do this job. Good Luck....Squirrel Crusher

I've installed one of Rudy's ICs on Thumper's car. Quality unit that supposedly cools better and cost $100+ or so less than the stock unit NW sells. It's a DIY fix if you have the tools, time, and patience.

I've had my supercharger off a couple of times. You can do it by your self if you have the time and patience. It's not what I'd call hard at all, but it's possible to run into difficulties. Rudy gave me some tips/advice when I replaced my leaking intercooler. I went with Rob's thermal coated intercooler …. for the record. You can use your car while your collecting all the gaskets and new I/C. It won't hurt a thing. Rob will package every single thing you'll need for you, at a good price.

Thanks everyone for your advice and options. I have had the charger off a few times so no problems there. I still have the manifold pressure code so pressure is definitely leaking somewhere. Don't have any noticeable delays in performance so will keep trucking along until I can get everything replaced. I will do a proper tear down as to clean up all the ports that have any "gook" in them. I appreciate the help, cheers

Goodgenes79 offered me $20 for mine, so it will be staying in the garage in case I buy another SRT6.

ok, yes, 2 options, oem or Rudy's, both will fix your issue. they are both expensive routes. i will help as much as i can but be prepared that the repair will run close to 1500 with you doing the labor yourself. the blower can be pulled from the car in about an hour if you have all your tools handy.

Got a used one from Grip Grip, installed and running. It's going through the coolant cycles so after a couple good warm ups it should be ok. Hoping this one lasts for a bit. Thanks again for everyone's help in finding a replacement. cheers
