Default I feel sorry for all of you...

I just bought an '05 SRT-6 (will come home Wednesday). I'm known to ask lots of questions. I'll go easy on you...for now:

Is it a given that the transmission is designed to creep (a fair amount) when stopped, so just put it in neutral? Or can it be toned done a bit - with no ill effects?

Oh wait, another one: Is the left lower center rocker unmarked switch on the dash just filling a hole? The one that 'should' actuate the really cool motorized rear wing?

Please define "creep"? Forward? Backward? On a hill? I mean when I come to a stop I keep the brake on to stay still preventing any "creep."

Thanks. I probably shouldn't have started out with two negatives. Bad form. I drove the car less than a mile and was hooked.

My excuse has been that I'm really getting tired of going up-and-down the (6) gears in stop-and-go So.Cal. traffic and was considering getting an XF with an automatic. Though being a bit long in the tooth, my childhood fantasy has always been to own a car with a supercharger. Meaning I've had my face pressed up to the glass divider between Ltd. and the SRT-6 forum.

I'm assuming that dragging for pink slips still applies.

Yes, it is just a "dummy" switch filling the hole. Welcome to the SRT6 family!

All automatics push some power through the torque converter to the drive train when stopped with the brake pedal applied, that is intrinsic in their design, they only creep if you are not pressing the brake hard enough.
So . . .

That dummy switch has a function on NA Crossfires bit not on SRT,s. Their wing is fixed.

the other side of the coin is that when driving the converter has nearly all of the motor's torque going through it. At a stop the converter "slips" so the motor does not stall. You all have likely heard of stall speed and that is the rpm where the converter(if the brakes and all components in the drivetrain) would stall if pushed that far but the brakes/tires will give and the drivetrain "slips" in a different way

Sweet2002, thank you for explaining that. I am getting used to always keeping my foot on the brake pedal when stopped. I also did on my '07 Ltd. but not as an absolute.

I do want to add that I'm very surprised that the automatic is as seamless as it is. Rarely do I sense it changing 'gears'. I have more than a few miles on me and have never owned a car with an automatic transmission. My only experience is when driving a rented truck which has always convinced me I'd never want a car with an automatic. I'm sure glad I finally did.
