SRT-6 Shifting
Hello - Just noticed what may be a shifting issue with recently acquired 2005 SRT-6. When I switch the S/W switch to W, shift indicator on the dash changes from D to 1 and the car requires manual shifting. It will not shift automatically at all. Is this normal for SRT-6s?

sounds like the previous owner had the TCU tuned. This normally includes replacing Winter/Comfort with Manual shifting
Cheers,
Chris
Wow, what are the odds of that happening? Not too many have done that mod. The W setting is for winter mode. It makes the tranny take off in 2nd, but other than that, it should shift normally.
Wow indeed! I guess TCU stands for Transmission Control Unit? At least it does not appear to be a broken transmission. (Whew). You think it's OK to leave it like this? Is there a way I can I change it back myself or would I have to pay someone? Thank You.
Easy to replace, it is mounted alongside the Infinity amp at the front of the passenger foot well.
I'm not sure if the OEM TCM/TCU is different for the SRT6. Anybody know ?
WOW !!!
I see one on ebay for $29.56 : http://www.ebay.com/itm/04-05-CHRYSL...-/350652366603

Great news for you!...
I'd like this upgrade.
If you have the TCU upgrade in your vehicle, it may also have a modified red line.
Normally 6200rpm, but those that have gone to the trouble of a TCU tune have sometimes also gone for a higher redline to squeeze out some extra gg's. However this also involves a matched ECU (Engine Control Unit) tune as well.
You can test the red line setting by placing it into Summer mode, disengage the ESP (dash), put it in first and launch (throttle flat to the floor "WOT"). Best done with an OBD recorder connected to make sure your capture the peak rpm.
In addition, if you don't have a limited slip diff - you may tend to drift sideways as the wheels find traction and you'll leave one stripe on the road, however if you don't drift sideways and leave #11's then your even luckier 'cause you have an LSD to boot.
One of the downsides of the ECU tune...if you get that far...is that it may be tuned for some other mods that may or may not remain on the car. If there are any labels/stickers like "Eurocharged" on the TCU/engine bay etc then it would be wise to get in touch with them and provide your VIN to get some history of the tunes - if available.
Another note on the swap if you ever go down that route is - you'd best match your PN#'s for the TCU's as they are not all created (or coded) equal. I'd keep the TCU and enjoy W when convenient.

As it was mentioned before, it sounds like you have an EuroCharged modded TCU. If you switch back to 'S' (full auto) it will go back to D. Stay in 'W' and you're in full manual.
Enjoy your new beast.

Lot of 'tranny' problems in the news lately.
