TCU Removal
Re: TCU Removal
1) disconnect the Neg battery terminal
2) make sure you've completed #1
3) pull back the carpet in the passenger footwell. There you will see a white foam core approx 1"thick.
4) remove the foam and set aside
5) using a 10mm socket remove the 3 nuts
1 on top/1 left/ 1 right
Note the right one is out of sight line don't drop it, it's hard to fish back out (this is from experience)
The backing plate contains the TCU and the AMP. If you haven't done step 1, do it now.
6) fold the plate down, you'll have to pull it forward from the top and then lift it off of the lower bolts
7) snap a few pics of the TCU with the plate down.
Keeping the TCU in place are 2 torx Screws. (I think the torx heads are #27)
8) remove both screws and cut the 2 zip ties (you'll see them and be careful to NOT cut and wires.)
9) unplug the TCU
Take a few images of the zip ties as you'll need to install new ones. Installing them back onto the unit, it's not intuitive. That's why you should snap a few pics. It easier to install them into the backer plate and bring them through the TCU and then around the wire loom.
