SRT6 Coupe...Will it continue to run?
SRT6 Coupe...Will it continue to run?
Hi guys,
Spent the morning/midday just cleaning our 'new' car. Worked over all the weatherstripping to keep her supple then tackled the engine compartment. I think I read somewhere on this forum with all the wealth of info about these:
In my attempt to just clean them, one slipped off and got swallowed up between the inner and outer fender. So I found a small plug to cover the nipple. No problem. On to the other side where it promptly broke, they're brittle. Managed to fish it out. now will the car run (smile)? The fact that it's open at a 90 degree from the nipple means it has something to do with relieving moisture/fogging condition, right? What do you guys do for a work around?
Is the power steering fluid just Chrysler or something special by Mercedes? I plan on sucking that out and putting in fresh.
Which brings me to a couple of more questions. Is the stock 3:07 rear end a positraction unit? I think I read 75-90 dinosauer oil right. If the unit is a posi, do I need to add the posi additive?
Really appreciate your feedback!
Thanks in advance!
ps a pic of the fruits of my labor (smile)

Re: SRT6 Coupe...Will it continue to run?
AS CrossfireRush noted, it is not a posi. It is an electronically controlled limited slip. And, the stock version of this is OK, but could be a lot better. Thus, several years ago, WaveTrack produced a true limited slip differential for the SRT6. I have had one installed for a number of years, and it works pretty darned good. It really produced a marked difference. I don't know if they are still available, but there might be a few of the still for sale.

My '89 Ford Probe has a tiny little 90 degree neck on the radiator ( plastic of course ) where the cap is.
I was on a 100 mile trip a few years back and noticed the temp was slowly rising,
I finally had to add water just 5 miles from my destination.
Upon arrival, I found that a squirrel or mouse had chewed a chunk out at the 90 deg bend,
I got some JB Weld and fixed it up, still holding years later

JB WELD really does work. A buddy of mine had a 1980 Cadillac. Was gradually heating up due to a cracked water pump. What did we have to lose. Getting that water pump off would have been an all day venture. We JB Welded that crack. Let it set up for 24 hours. He drove that Caddie the next 4 years with that waterpump. No leaks, no overheating issues. Great stuff. Oh, not that Quilweld crap. The real, original JB Weld.
