This is my first convertible. Is there any thing special that you put on the soft top ?. I don't know if I should avoid wetting the top every time I wash it or is there a special product you put on it to help it last longer.

I have Mothers convertible top cleaner and have only had to use it once since I've only detailed one convertible, but it works pretty good. As far as protection, thats a good question and seeing that its a fabric top, someone makes something.

 

the top gets wet everytime it rains; sun is more your enemy than water --

 

I normally just spray my top off when washing and its good. Every once and a while i'll use a real soft brush I bought just for the top and gently scrub it. Once dry I get out the lint roller and pick up any stray dry items.

303 fabric protector is what has been recommended on here before and the next time I treat mine thats what i'll use. Spray some water on your top and it should bead up and not just soak in, if it does then its probably time to treat it. I used scotch guard heavy duty water repellent for out door fabric because I didn't want to drive to the boat store across town to get the 303. Man what a mistake, it ended up working out but what a mess. Be sure to tape off and cover in plastic everything but the fabric. Think of the protection spray as if your spraying a clear paint. Any over spray on glass or painted surfaces is bad, as in it doesn't wash off. Also less is more, too much and it could turn grayish white. Follow the instruction on whatever you use. Really guys, this one time it does pay to read and follow the directions.

 

raggtopp works well. It is a 2 step process, use the cleaner first, let it dry, then the protectant. Water beads up on the roof on my 06 white ltd.

 

I would stick with either the two step products from either Ragg Topp or Meguiar's. The Meguiar's products are actually from their Marine line so they are designed for canvas biminis that sit out in the blinding sun for weeks on end. As previously mentioned, the sun is going to be your worst enemy.
