Default Damn bird crap

I only have 2,700 miles on my xfire and baby it pretty good. A bird had left a small deposit on my hood that was there for roughly two days. After removing it, I noticed that it ate into the clearcoat and left a permanent mark. I tries everything including a clay bar. Am I screwed? Is this normal? Should I take it back to the dealer? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure on your situation but here is my method of dealing with bird poop. Wet a paper towel and set it on the bird mess. After about 15 minutes wipe off. This way you are not scrubbing and scratching your car.

I have a permanent mark on my other vehicle from a seagull deposit. They tried buffing it out with compound and everything. Only way to get rid of it is sand it down and repaint. I don't take the Crossfire to the beach for that very reason. Good luck.

i would speak with a highline auto body shop. they may be able to "wet sand" the flawed area... high speed buff and polish. this may remove the etching in the paint from the dropping.

wet sanding is your best chance of eliminating it or reducing the damage.

i have the same shaiza on my spoiler... it won't come out, bird crap is acidic, if it stays on the paint it eats right into it... short of a scrub down to the metal, it won't come out most of the time.

i tried rubbing compounds and buffers to no avail...

N.A.S.A. should consider using bird droppings to help hold the protective heat resistant tiles onto the space shuttle. I've found nothing sticks to my car better.

Cool Re: Damn bird crap

Never try to wipe off bird crap...they eat dirt and gravel and it is deposited in their droppings. thus producing "bird crap sandpaper". The wet towel is a good idea, anything that will reduce the wiping will do fine. You can also try this..."clean the area of wax and dirt, then light clay bar, and then a little bit of "Nu Finish" (can be found at any auto store). This should restore the finish or at least make it less noticeable.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I guess in the long run I am pretty much out of luck. Live and learn I guess.

Depending upon how deep down the bird poop acid went, perhaps using some of the Nu-finish Scratch remover might help. It does a good job with micro-scratches. After that, some Nano-Wax? ... And then a car cover, even a cheapie one...

I'm truly sorry to read this, but let this be a warning to everyone out there...KEEP ALOT OF WAX ON YOUR CAR, EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS.

Key is to get it off ASAP. I keep a pack of Baby Wipes in the glove box just for Bird Poop removal. It usually gets it off easily and if its safe for a baby's butt it can't hurt my baby too badly!
