Touch up paint?
anybody used touch paint from dealership?? my friend just scratch the edge of passenger side door while opening the door, the passenger side door hit again the wall and made small scratch on the edge of door. I just got the car so I don't wanna see any scratch. So I brought the car and they said they want $450 which I think it's not worth it. So my question is, anybody used touch up paint?? does it look like it has been touched up?? should I pay $7.60 to do touch up or spend $450 to do it right? please help me out guys.
the factory touch-up paint works great... shake it well and apply.
don't get the door painted over... the end result will be much worse imo.
any pics?

I will get the pic tomorrow... I'm not an expert at painting things...so I was thinking about detail department at my dealership do the work for me for free... So I should be find to have them touch up the door? Shouldn't notice it?
I agree with Andrew...touch it up yourself, just be careful and patient. I have touched up a few small rock chips on my Roadster Limited, hardly noticeable. If you use the spray, just mask off the area to prevent over spray and have at it... Good Luck
I used the touch-up paint when I put some "nice" scratches under the front bumper when I hit one of those stinking concrete bumpers. The results were barely noticeable. How did I really scratch my car? Well, a young lady, 3 spaces down from me, was bending over into her back seat with a mini-skirt on and I lost my concentrate for a moment or two...maybe three.

If your car has metallic paint (which every other color offered on the Crossfire is) then only have an entire panel painted as a last resort. Why? Because it's nearly impossible to match metallic paint, no matter how well it's done. Unless the exact air temp. humidity, paint mixture, and angle of the spray guns nozzle is duplicated, it won't be an exact match. And in certain types of light, or by looking at it from different angles, eventually you will see the difference.
Like Andrew pointed out, take your time, and apply the paint very lightly. If the scratch is down to bare metal, you should apply some primer first, then gradually build up your color by applying very light coats of paint. Try your best not to overlap the touch up paint onto the existing factory paint. After the paint dries, by using a wet, fine, polishing compound, you can gently rub the touched up area to make it even with the rest of the paint, and to help it blend in.
The whole key to the project is to take your time, and not be heavy handed.
Good Luck
Two products come to mind with regards to touch-up repairs:
Langka and Touchup123. Google them for more info. I have seen many enjoy the product, but I will be honest...I have yet to try it but I think I will very shortly. Basically after applying ANY form of touch-up paint, whether from the two companies mentioned above or from anywhere else, it is best to level the touch-up paint with a polish (or compound if necessary), then a finishing polish to restore shine. Wet sanding down a touch-up paint "blob" is even better. But you should follow up with a proper polish as well to restore shine to the area being wet sanded.

For SSB owners: DO NOT waste your time or money buying the OEM touchup paint. It's way too dark and impossible to match the paint on your car. It is a few shades lighter than the graphite, nowhere close to SSB.
I have a nasty chip on the hood, about 18" behind the driver's headlight. I tried to touch it up with the paint I got at the dealer. I had planned on applying a little at a time building up layers of paint, and then color sanding to smooth it out. The paint was so dark I wiped it off as soon as I applied the first layer.
I guess I'll go to the auto stores or a paint shop and see if I can find a lighter shade of silver that may match. I have my doubts even that will work. On the right side of the chip there is a hairline crack. You can barely see it in the photo, but it's there and very visible to the eye. I may have to enlarge the chip to properly fix it and then it may be too large to touch up...

Ben,
Definitely update your progress. Now that I've had my car almost a week, and the haze has cleared from new ownership, I went over the body a bit to see what needs to be fixed (it had 2,700 miles on it already). There's the typical swirls and some tiny nicks here and there. However, I have two nick like the one you showed but much smaller, in just about the same place on the hood as you.
I have an Aero Blue, but your findings on paint may be of help.

Sorry to say, "I don't think there will be anything to update", unless I have the hood repainted at a body shop. The SSB paint does not lend itself very well to the touch up method of repair. At least not within my capabilities. Finding a good color to match is almost impossible for the SSB metallic paint. And because of the hairline crack next to the nick, I would have to enlarge the nick to fix it properly, which would almost double the size of the nick.

So the only way to get the chips taken care of is to take it to the dealership? I noticed that the picture was of the light gray crossfire. Is it the same with the dark metalic gray? I was thinking about getting some today.
My dealer gave me a bottle of touch up. I think it works great. For very small nicks or chips you can use a toothpick. If you get the round kind take one with a smooth fine point and dip it in the paint. It works great for those pin point chips. The only rule is take your time and don't rush.

Well i guess I saw this thread a little to late. -- i got a bottle of touch up paint from the dealership for my SSB and it's true that it's definitely a darker gray shade. I wiped it off immediately!
The bottle part # is 05127585AA and it's supposed to match the SSB but don't waste your time it does not match, not even close.
i have a couple of chips in the rear bumper. I'll try some local body shops to see if they can match it.
