Darn bubble gum!
Apparently I stepped in a big wad of gum just before I entered my car today. Now there is gum embedded into the carpet where the dead pedal would be. Any thoughts on the best way to get it out?
Try holding an ice cube on it (to harden it) and use an awl or other sharp instrument to 'pick' it off of the carpet. It will take some time but is better than using chemicals that may bleach out the carpet. Good luck.

goo gone ...
for all those gooey, sticky, gummy, greasy cleaning problems. removes chewing gum, grease, tar stickers, labels, tape residue, oil, blood, lipstick and mascara, shoe polish, crayon, bumper stickers. works on carpets, upholstery, clothing, wood, and cement.
i have used it on the gum & carpet combo... works like a champ!
this is the safe way to go...

Mr. Clean straight out of the bottle on paper towel. Saturate it and it breaks down the stickiness of gum and it will come right out. Then moisten area with water to remove Mr. Clean.
I had the same thing happen to me, I picked as much of the gum off the carpet as I could then used lacquer thinner to remove the rest. Can't tell there was ever any gum at all. Make sure you don't touch any plastic with the lacquer thinner because it will melt plastic.
Believe it or not, brake clean works well too, but its got a strong chemical smell. If you go this route DO NOT get it on the painted plastic pieces. It will take the paint off that, but will not damage the carpet, strange but true.
Its also GREAT at getting out grease from your carpet or cloth seats, good luck and BTW, Andrew is right, Goo-Gone is and will always be your friend!
I vote for GOO GONE. Roll up all your windows pour the entire bottle on the carpeting and take 4 aspirin. Why? Because you are going to have a major headache. But, the gum will be GONE.
Just kidding. Try and scrape the majority of the gum off before you use the Goo Gone. And use it sparingly. In a small area it is very strong. And yes it will remove lipstick.
Good luck.

I can only imagine what went on that car before you bought it.
