Default Leather care??

I was just wondering what you detailers use to take care of your leather seats?
Who makes the best product for leather care?

Has anyone ever tried shoe polish heheh? would it work or will I end up sliding all over the seat?

Not necessarily, but your clothes will very quickly become the same color as your shoes...

Ok, it's just that I have a slightly worn area where the leather is showing it's original lighter hide. I just want to do a color touch up.

I have found Lexol to be the best leather care product on the market. I have used it in previous cars and have been very satisfied. Now that I have the SRT-6 I no longer need it.

Agree... and you can use the leather cleaner on the dash and doors as well do to it's gentle nature.

Lexol pH Leather cleaner (orange bottle) works very well to clean the seats. Use a damp sponge with some of the cleaner on it and work it into a lather on the seats, then use another clean damp sponge to wipe off the cleaner. Dry the seats with a towel. Then use Lexol Leather Conditioner (brown bottle). Spray it on a dry sponge and wipe it onto the seats. Let it set about 5 minutes and then wipe the seats with a dry towel. They will look brand new and feel soft. I also clean and condition my steering wheel in the same manner. It works very well.

I've used the Lexol products, the cleaner is excellent! I use the Zaino cleaner and conditioner. They both work great and the smell of new leather is a strong point with the Zaino products.

~ i would head to a local coat or shoe store... they would sell a protectant spray for suede & a brush if needed.

It's not suede -- the material is actually a microfibre textile called "alcantara" that is manufactured exclusively in Italy by a company of the same name and is used in high end automotive and furniture applications. See: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=9262

I have been happy with Sonus Leather Cleaner followed by Sonus Leather conditioner. I will soon be trying the Zaino z-9 and z-10. Alot of detailers seem to swear by the Zaino stuff. Leathermasters stuff is supposed to be good to.

Thumbs up Re: Leather care??

I use two products on my customers and my own rides. First thing is to clean the surface and I only use one product for that, Griots interior cleaner. Its the best product for cleaning leather surfaces w/o fear of damaging it. I also use Griots leather products, they have a regular conditioner as well as a product for older leather, both are great and smell like they melted a baseball glove into the bottle. The next product is something I found over at Top of the Line detailing products (online store) called Leather Master. Half of the bottle is in German because its made there, but this stuff is awesome. Once you apply it and wait a half and hour your good to go as its soaked into the seats and you don't stick or need to rub it in a bit more. Its pricey at $20.00 for 250 ml (sorry, thats the way they sell it) but I'm going to be buying the stuff by the liter (its $60.00) because it makes more sense for me since I detail cars on the side. Good luck with your car guys.

The "strong" version of leathermasters stuff is what I will probably get for client's cars. A fabric expert recommended the stuff to me. Please feel free to pm me to tell me more about your comparisons with other leather products!

Although this was obviously said tongue-in-cheek, you may find that you had a better idea than you think. In absence of a dedicated automotive preparation which you like better, plain old Saddle Soap and Mink Oil are hard to beat for taking care of your seats.

While I am currently partial to AutoGlym or Zymols' leather care concoctions...in the past I have used Saddle Soap and Mink Oil quite frequently and have found them to be just as useful on seats as they are on footwear. Perhaps they require slightly more effort, but not much. The results can't help but please. Not to mention both can be found at any moderately stocked grocers for cheap...roughly two or three dollars apiece, last I purchased some.
