Default Help! (my wife is gonna kill me)

Ok guys, I have a problem here...the other night I took my wife's car out and somehow drove through some wet paint, didn't notice this until the next morning (white paint, road striping?). Seeing it on the car I thought no big deal, the car was waxed, the paint should come right off...NOT! First I tried mineral spirits, nothing. Then I tried denatured alcohol, nada. Then I tried MEK, it worked but it also affected the paint on the car. Any suggestions?? I'm thinking maybe a hair dryer to maybe peel it off. Please, I need a miracle here, thanks, John.

I asked this same question some time ago. Here's Andrew's response. I hope this helps.

'finger nail polish remover' works great to remove road paint off of your cars metal/rim surfaces... just be careful using it on plastics...

place the remover on a towel & rub lightly... it will require a polish after paint removal.

Thanks FP, I know that it's basically acetone and I'll need like a gallon, the paint is all over the side of the car. On one of my previous jobs we used acetone as a clean up, (forgot all about it) I'll give it a try. Again, thanks.

I'm not sure nail polish removers have acetone anymore.

If you have that much road paint on your car I'd suggest to take it to a professional to be removed!

I've used WD40 for tar removal, not sure about paint removal. Just be careful no matter what you use, but it might be worth a try. Good luck!

What about a clay bar? I would guess that would work.

My Girlfriend's old car had quite a bit of paint on it. I got all of it off with 1,500 grit sandpaper & some soapy water (color sanding). It came right off without much effort at all. You might need to follow up with some polishes and a final wax (just an FYI).
