Default Chip Repair

It had to happen. I have my first hood chip on my SRT. My WRX has hundreds of chip marks right through the paint, worst paint job I've ever seen. I'm not sure this chip is down through the paint. Is there truly anyway to repair these chips? There are so many do it yourself products on the market but I'm not in anyway handy and am willing to pay. If these chips can be fixed where do I take it, auto body, dedicated paint shop, detailer? Help please.

Thank you,

Rick

Dupli-Color has a Premium Touch-Up Repair Kit called Scratch Fix 2 in 1. I costs around $20 and comes with small amounts of spot putty, filler primer, clear coat, a contoured sanding disc, self adhesive sanding sheets and finishing compound. It also comes with a complete set of instructions.

You use the touch-up paint from Chrysler with it.

Looks simple, but I just bought it and have not tried it yet. You might want to check it out.

All those components seem complex to me, specially putting a sanding disk to the car. I really would prefer a pro. Let me know how you make out.

I know how you feel, I am the same way. LOL.

Actually everything comes in a very small box, 2" x 1.5" x 3". Pros do something called wet sanding when the paint or touch up. The grit is very fine and simply smoothes the surface. You can then buff out any fine scratches.

I am going to try a couple small chips inside the door just below the latching loop where I think my seatbelt may have swung back and caused a small chip (invisible with the door closed). Will let you know when I get up the courage...

It sounds like you don't want to be bothered by it and that is totally fine. I would suggest finding a spot repair person as they are usually mobile and can go to you. It does take some patience and special tools such as a polisher and other paint specific products to do the job right.
