Paint Sealant Question
I spent some time on the crossfire today...gave it a complete detail...pulled the wheels, etc...
I applied Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant after claying the car, but then after lunch and a break (2.5 hours) I put a coat of Souveran Carnuauba wax on the car as well...I was going for that real deep wet look.
The car looks GREAT by the way! However, I am now reading that you are supposed to let the Sealant cure for 12 hours. It didn't say anything like that on the bottle. Did I just wax it off with the Carnauba??
For the record, the carnauba is not a cleaner wax, just straight wax without additional abbrasives.
Thoughts?
Do I start over with the Sealant again and let it cure this time? Would that even work now that I have a fresh coat of carnauba on it?
Thanks,
KrzyFast

You're fine. While many sealants recommend a 12 hour cure time it is often difficult, if not impossible, to actually wait that long between coats. I know several very high end detailers (guys who charge $500 - $1,000 just to polish paint) who apply two coats of polymer sealants within a couple hours of each other - they simply can not come back to their client's home the next day to apply the second coat, whether that be a second coat of the same sealant or a carnauba wax.
The Pinnacle Souveran that you used did not remove the sealant you had just applied, and I highly doubt there were any adhesion issues between the two. Bottom line, if you're happy with the final result, go out and enjoy the car. Three months from now use a nice paint cleaner on the car - 4 Star Paint Cleaner, Meguiar's M80, etc to remove the sealant/wax combo you have on there now - then apply your sealant, park the car in the garage overnight and apply your wax the next day. Make sure to go over the horizontal surfaces with a quick detail spray and microfiber towel to remove any settled dust before applying the wax.
Come back and tell us if you notice a big difference over what you just did. I'm willing to bet you won't notice any difference. Where you do notice a difference is when you just wash and wax a car rather than giving it the full treatment - wash, clay, clean/polish, wax. That makes all the difference in the world.

Mike,
Thanks a lot! I appreciate the detailed response.
I never have used sealants and I still can't figure out why the directions on the bottle did not mention that the product had to cure...especially don't get it wet during that period...rain, dew, etc... othewise it will not hold up like it should??? Luckily for me the car stays in the garage, but for others who don't have a garage, that is a bit of an issue. The product won't hold up as advertised.
I guess in the end though, most people on this forum are like me and it won't matter b/c they will be waxing the car every few weeks if not more.
I hate if the car is dirty, it just bugs me.
Anyway, the car does look great, and it is slick as glass. I will get some digital photos today and post them up. I will let you know when I do.
Cheers,
Patrick
