Default Clean Rims! :)

well I finaly had enough of the break dust on my front rims today so after work I actually took the tires off and cleaned the backside of the rims also, they were so black from all the breakdust it took 3 times of spraying wheel cleaner and brushing to get it all off, now they are squeaky clean and hopefully the break dust stays off for awhile, I will post results and tell you if it takes longer for the break dust to accumulate on the front of the rim now

I did the same thing today, but I also put a set of ceramic brake pads on all four corners over the weekend. If you didn't change pads I hate to say it, but the dust will come back just as bad as before. This is the second time I've cleaned mine this way but with the new ceramic pads I shouldn't have to again for quite some time.

I have been wanting to do that also, but still need a torque wrench so I can apply the right amount of torque when I put the wheels back on.. In addition, I might as well wait until its time to replace the pads with ceramic to clean the inside of the rims.

Hey guys one other thing you can do is invest in a 12" rat tail brush. When you wash your car, wash the wheels first. With the 12" brush you can scrub the backs of the wheels and not have to remove anything or bust up your knuckles trying to squeeze between the spokes. I have a pic of the one I got off the internet in my gallery.

That's what I'm doing too. I use a similar brush to clean the rim, it is easy and does a very good job, I washed off a lot of brakedust everytime, with my original brake pad. I also use the same brush to clean the front of the wheel, where the dirt got caught at the corners, i think it is easier than using sponge or cloth.

Ditto on what MIO said, CLEAN WHEELS start with a change to Rotex Golds OR Posi Quiet Ceramic brake pads.

My pads only had 6,500 miles on them, and I gladly tossed them in the trash, really drove me crazy when I only drove two miles and my wheels looked like A$$. The money I saved just in wheel cleaner paid for the pads all around. BTW, I'm using the Pois Quiet Ceramics...almost zero dust.

Peace
Paul

That blonde photo has to be a photoshop... See the center cap? It's a Honda emblem. Whoe in their right mind would like a Honda when you could lick a Yugo Lada, or a Pacer (Insert Sarcasm Here).

I cleaned mine today getting ready for car show. Has to be the most ridiculous amount of time I have ever spent on any car. Drive 50 miles and they are dirty again. I will look into ceramics. Car has 5200 miles.

My rims have been staying extremely clean with the Posi-Quiet Ceramic pads.
Just for the record, I don't push the car that hard, but they seem to stop the car quite well and have never squeaked. I guess they live up to their name

Peace

I have had so little brake dust with the Disc Italia hyper ceramix pads, you would not believe it.

I hate to go out on this limb, but it appears that most ceramic pads have this great side effect of not creating a lot of brake dust. I always go for ceramic pads on any car I'm working on, just for that benefit alone.

Peace
