Default Egged :-(

So, I was out of town for a few months at the beach house, came back home, and of course the first thing I come home to is my beautiful paint ruined by someone's childish nonsense of egging my car. So now i'm going to have to get my car repainted as the egg sat to long on the paint and etched the whole car in various spots. Does anyone have any suggestions about getting the car painted?

Dude, that sucks BIG time! I wonder if "Mike-in-Orange" will see this post. I believe he works for a car care manufacture here on the West Coast, maybe he has some ideas/products to recover from this damage. Good luck!

I know how you feel. I got it off before it was dry, and still it was etched in the paint. The truck was only 6 months old. I hope that something bad happens
to the people who do things like this! REALLY BAD!

Well, at least you've got a black car. One of the good things about black is that it requires very little color matching, and you won't have to worry about the repainted panels looking different from the panels that don't need repainted. This should save you a few bucks too, as the paint shop knows this and it makes it easier for them.

I'd be up for vengeance mission. I have some family in NC.

I haven't done anything like that in a while, would be a great reason to do so.

Caught, I'm really sorry to hear about that happening to your car. I was totally unaware that it would etch your paint like that. Would a clay bar be of any help? Or possibly a very fine polishing compound?
As GB'sXFire mentioned, if Mike-in-Orange doesn't respond to this thread, send him a PM.
I would have been more worried about "dents and dings".
I hope none of the egg yolk got into your ventilation ducts, that can totally ruin your day.
Good Luck

sorry to hear of the bummer news... this happened to me 20 years ago... and minutes after it happened i drove to a diy car wash to rinse the residue and the damage was already done.

i believe the shells impact is what creates the pattern of chip marks in the paints finish... no solution but to repaint...

This happened to my wife's car ! Don't know what it is about egg and paint, but it ain't good.
Fortunately we were able to claim it against our comprehensive on our insurance and only paid a small deductable to have the car repainted !

First off, I'm really sorry to hear about this. There's an election coming up next week and I'm all for making this sort of vandalism a capital offense. Think I'm joking?? Try me.

I hate to say it, but one of the absolute worst things that can happen to your car is for it to be egged. I've seen it many, many times (though, knock on wood, have never been a victim of it myself) and it's never pretty. Surprising as it sounds the shells can, as they break on impact, actually chip into the paint all the way down to the primer. And it just gets worse from there. The proteins and enzymes in the egg yolk will etch very deeply into the paint in short order. If you catch it very quickly you can sometimes wetsand and buff the area to correct it, but that's rare.

In caught's case here he has two serious things working against him: the egg etched into the paint over time, and his car is black. The damage will be severe and the color will show everything, even if you just wetsand and buff the effected areas.

I would spend some serious time shopping different body shops and talking to them about not just repainting the areas but also their finish work after painting. A lot of body shops are very good at spraying paint, but horrible at the finish buffing process. A black car will show rotary buffer holograms like crazy if the body shop isn't good at buffing, and if all they do is hide the holograms with a glaze they'll show up after you wash the car a few times. They're easy enough to remove with a D/A buffer and a body shop paint job will likely be easier to work with than the Crossfire factory paint is, but still.

Good luck with this whole process, and let me know if I can offer any further help/suggestions/etc.

+fireamx - Hi Mike - no you can't "clay it" out. Eggs are like acid. I had a black GT Cruiser before the Crossfire and it was hit after midnight one night, I got to it at around 6 a.m. and it had eaten an area where it hit the car all the way through to the primer coat. It's a comp claim, vandalism, on your car insurance caught. Have you turned it in? In most cases comp claims do not go against you. Follow Mike In Orange's advise.

Hey Pat, it just goes to show what experience can do for ya.
Fortunately, I've never experienced it, but I have a friend whose girlfriend egged his car one time, and I don't remember it doing anything but put dents in it. Come to think of it though, it does seem like he got it repainted not long afterwards.
After hearing the "pro's" comments, I'm almost afraid to take my car out of the garage anymore.
I fully agree with with my old friend, (Mike-in-Orange) it should be a capital offense.

Hey guys, sorry I havn't been on here in a while, I'm in the process of moving back to the mountains. I appreciate everyones help and ideas. I have decided to hold off on any work to the paint for the time being. I don't have the time nor the money to mess with it much right now. As far as the vengence comment, I have thought about putting my car back where it was in front of my building one friday night and waiting for those kids to try something else. We also just had exhaust systems stole from both of our new toyota taco work trucks that we left outside for ONE night. Im planning a covert mission to set outside one friday night and wait for those sick people to try something else. It won't be to pretty. I've taken the car to a few places and i've gotten estimates from 3-4k.

As far as the paint, I have thought about having the car custom painted when I can get some money together, maybe when my taxes come back this coming spring. I guess I will just wait and see. I thought about just sanding the thing down and going with the primer black like all those little rice burners. LOL jk..... I might play around with photoshop and come up with something. I hope nothing like this ever happens to you guys.

The only short term solution I have come up with is to not wash my car hah, it hides the spots better ..... Well, I have to finish up some work.

Again, thanks everyone.

Won't your insurance help out with the cost?

Catalytic converters on Toyota trucks are one of the hotest stolen items right now. A guy at my work had his stolen while he was at happy hour.

Yea thankfully it covered the replacement of the exhaust system. It would have cost me $2,000 to replace out of my pocket had it not. Pretty stupid when you consider the truck only cost $14,500 brand new.

Sorry, I meant insurance covering the paint job.

hey man i own a small paint and body shop in north florida and without looking at it i would say the best thing to do is find yourself a "COLORS ON PARADE van" and have them paint all the areas affected and blend them in to the rest of the current paint...these guys are awsome...i have them come to my shop all the time and have them touch up stuff that would be a waste of my time to for me to completely repaint the part...these guys do all the dealership cars in my area and probably in yours too...i would probably say they would charge you thousands less than what a full repaint would cost...send me some pics and i might be able to give you an idea of how much it should cost you to get it fixed...
