Default Meguiars Plastx

I know I have your attention Mike. Great ,great product. Used it last night on my daughter's Audi headlights and they look like Crystal! When I was applying it I noticed it smelled an awful lot like the suntan lotion we use. I know you talk a lot about the multi use of some of Meguiars products.......well this weekend I will put my normal suntan lotion on one arm and Meguiars Plastx on the other. I'll let you know the results! Can you imagine the possibilities? Barry will have to double his normal huge smile because he can put Hawaiian Tropic out of business! Just think clean your headlight lenses AND sun protection all in one bottle!
By the way that Zaino detail spray that sorta smells like fruit? well it doesn't taste like fruit, ruined a whole cup of vanilla yogurt!
Have a great weekend.

Ditto on that product. I did the lens on my work truck, 2004 Express van, and it really did a great job on the lens covers.

Gee Pat, I'm not so sure about it working as a sunblock, but it is excellent on headlights. You think that Zaino smells good, you should try our new Ultimate Quik Wax. Just not on yogurt.

I'm using the PasticX once a week after washing the car and I swear the lenses are looking better and better after each appilcation.

I'm a big fan of Meguairs products myself, and have a bottle of Plastx that I use on my wife's car and truck. My question--and I do have one--regards a statement I read somewhere on the net in which a guy said not to use anything other than soap and water on a new car's headlight cover. He claimed that they come from the factory with some sort of protective treatment that works great to protect the plastic for a year or two. By then it has worn off and you may proceed to use a plastic product. But if you use the detailling stuff before that time lapses you strip off all the factory goodness protecting your covers.

Sounds like nonsense to me, but it gave me pause in hitting my new Xfire's lenses with Plastx. Any truth to this claim?

Signing off and hoping to avoid accusations of being an old wife.

I would say that sums it up nicely. The plastic itself has UV inhibitors out of the factory. I outgasses over time and leaves the lenses with no protection. I had Lamin-x covers installed after I had the headlights replaced. UV protected-but I'm sure the same thing goes. 1-2 years and the UV will start to degrade those. I have the Lamin-x spray protectant for them with UV blocker. The installer said to shelve it for the next year and to start useing it after thet. Once a month or thorough cleaning.

Most new car headlights do indeed have some sort of protective coating so it's best not to use anything abrasive when new.
