Lake Country Pad Choices
Hi Folks, well, I've decideed to bite the bullet and buy the 7424XP. I get my choice of three Lake Country pads with this kit. Since I don't know the first thing about it, what should I take as my pads??
Thanks, Brian
Thanks, Brian
I buy products from Classic Motoring in Florida. You can find them if you do a search.
They have details on pads and description of what each does. As an example I have one that is orange in color for applying product like scratchX or all in one cleaner product. The next pad is yellow where I apply the polish coat and the last pad I have is white. I use this to apply sealer or carbuna wax finish. I think I got the color correct. Again go to the site and they explain the type of pads/applications.

From the Lake Country website I downloaded a Pad Application Guide. The key is in being able to judge what level of scratching/ oxidation you want to remove. Being conservative, I might be looking at white, followed by black, ending at blue pads...now I need to figure out what products I'll need!

There are alot of products out there and each has his own favorite.
I know that PatP on the forum uses Zaino products and his car looks great. I plan to order some and see if I can improve on my finish.
Best of luck.

I use lake pads, and pinnacle polishes. I am sure Meguiar's would work well also
your choice of pads should work well.
Thanks, guys. Sorry to be so thick, but what sorts of products am I looking for? Is it three different things for the three different pads, or a buffing compound and a wax? I have a red '05 that looks pretty good, just want to make it as nice as possible and maintain it.
Depends on paint condition, If you have heavy swirl marks, use a light swirl mark remover, with the white pad. Followed with polishing glaze on the black or blue.
Then I wax by hand.
I always start with the least abrasive product, then go heavier if I need to.
Here are some good tips.

I always start with an LC orange pad and work softer with the glaze, sealer then wax. Our Crossfire's have very hard clear-coat. This vehicle demands more aggressive techniques to remove swirls because soft pads will not have an effect on the clear-coat. Make sure to test in a small area first. If its not working you can use a more aggressive pad or compound. A kit with an orange, white, black, and blue pads should get you started.
Make sure your 7424XP kit has a Hook & Loop Backing Plate, you'll need it to attach the pads.

try the new lake county kompressor pads. they work very well
as for zaino products they are not really formulated for a buffer. it can be used but the products are designed for hand use
