Default Just can't win

Like most XF owners I am paranoid about parking where someone can scratch my car.

Three weeks ago I take my girlfriend to dinner and park in what I thought was a safe parking spot. Next day when I was washing my baby I see where someone scraped my right front bumper; left some of their paint and scratched up some of mine. Ugh!

Friday I was in Norfolk at a Walmart to pick up a friend for lunch. Waiting in the loading zone for her to come out. Walmart employee was collecting carts and let one get away from him. Rolls into my right rear fender. Ugh again!

Friday night I was staying in a motel in Chesapeake. Parked in the best place I could find. Some yoyo pulls in and parks next to me but it looked like there was plenty of room. He must have been handicapped, or stupid, but he opens his door all the way and dings my drivers' door. Ugh again! At the time I was sitting on the bed loading 45 ACP magazines for a pistol match on Saturday. Oh, I really was tempted.

Did you get the last two to pay for the damage?

I firgured out this problem. Its like when you burn yourself you try to keep it away from touching everything. Some how you always hit it on something everyday that make it hurt even worse. I started parking my car like every other car but i try to find spots next to other nice cars or a big spot. It helps the car blend in more and then they dont want to hurt it as much as if it was out in the open. People like to ruin things that other people have that they don't think they can have.

Thats terrible! I cringe every-time I take my car in for service - it usually gets parked with the "normal cars". I'm use to always parking in the next zip code whenever I go out. I think its its because our side doors are such a huge target and people just don't care. Good luck with yours.

Couldn't say anything at Walmart since the person I was picking up for lunch is in top management and she wouldn't wany anyone to know we were having lunch (long story).

The bozo who opened his door into mine claimed he never touched my car. Strange how those dings appear by themselves.

Next time you come up to Burtonsville I'll show you my Door Ding protectors. They work. As for the shopping cart turn that in on your comp coverage on your insurance. Should not affect your rate.

Forget the dents, we want the long story, girl friends, Walmart management, motels, guns etc. do not leave anything out, we've got time.

Boy, you really have to be careful what you say around here.
I was on my way to Moyoic NC for an IDPA match at the US Training Center (formerly Blackwater). My ex-wife (who I still dearly love) is a pharmacist so I arranged to have lunch. I don't think her fiance would appreciate learning that she had lunch with me so we had to be discreet.

I managed 29 mpg driving from Southern Maryland to Norfolk. Not bad for a high-performance sports car.

Driving home Saturday night was awful. It was raining and I drove on 301 from I-95 over to Southern Maryland. Not much traffic on 301 and it goes through Fort A.P. Hill which is overrun with deer. I have heard enough horror stories on this forum to scare me into driving at 50 on a road I would normally drive 90.

tell me about it! I take all factors into account when I have to park in public...Wind veloicty/direction, the cars door length, nice cars vs beaters and such. Here's a pic of what I got for parking in the next zip code at work STRUCK BY A LOW FLYING ROCK I solved the problem by keeping the car in the garage and only driving it to shows

I feel your pain, the problem is that the "average Virginia driver" is an idiot and has the IQ of a door ****. I mean no offense to any of the VA members (you are not average if you own an XF). Just this morning my XLR was almost hit 2 times while trying to pull out my parking space. My car was parked in a "Handicapped" space (legally), I come out of the bank and the Handicapped spot next to me has a 4 X 4 pickup parked (illegally) at an angle so close to my car that I could barely get out, as I am backing out a Chevy Trailblazer comes flying through and just misses the back of my car. As I am backing out he could clearly see that my head was turned looking in the opposite direction, no horn no alert that he was coming, he barely had room to pass. I would have never stopped except for the fact that my backup alarm went off.

Is the blind spot as bad in the XLR? I know its a serious issue in the Crossfire. Its already cost me one trip to the body shop. In Maryland there is supposed to be a backing law. In other words whoever is backing is at fault, not sure in Virginia but we do get an awful lot of backing in the parking lot claims. Mine was something stupid, I was told to move my car in a dealer lane and the kid who asked me to move it also moved a rental car (backing) at the same time. I probably could have argued the point he told me to move my car but knowing the law and working in insurance I just decided to deal with it.

I live in beautiful downtown Brandywine and also park in another zip code when in public. Drive it to work 90 miles a day -- yea u read right. When I park I have the luxury of parking in the same spot and haven't had a ding in over a year.

If you actually saw him do it, hindsight would have been to tell him in no uncertain terms that you would like to inspect his door. If he objects, snap a picture of him, his car and the license plate. Your insurance will probably cover after the deductable, but if it doesn't, small claims court will work.

That aside, most ppl don't have a nice car don't care and the ones that do, I park beside (if I have to) since it is their @$$ as well.

No sense of morals for the idgets that crawl around so. md. One way or another, ur gonna pay as far as I'm concerned.

Pat....no law on the books that I know, will do some research. In my previous thread the reason that I was so pissed is that I had the top down..... no blind spots and he could clearly see that my head was turned. The XLR with the top up has the same blind spots as the XFire but not as much, the rear window is much wider.

I work for a computer support company that manages public library computer networks. About half of all work days I am parked in public library parking lots. They are the absolute worst for dings...high traffic, lots of kids, and lots of big SUVs and Minivans with wide door clearances.

Needless to say I park as far away as possible and keep my fingers crossed.

Where was everybody in Beaners photo at the dam? Just one solitary sole wandering about. Was he the only one who got out in the rain besides the photographer?
