Default Whitewall Cleaner

The new white wall tires purchased last year for an old "classic" of mine have inferior whitewalls compared to any set purchased in the last 30yrs. The whitewalls just don't come up as white as I like. There is a Concours D" Elegance judging event coming up that will require a two hour drive to the event. I'll have road grime on the tires and need a quick cleaner that can be sprayed on and wiped off with amazing results...! Any suggestions welcome....TIA

+1, I remember my dad using this when I was very young, and still to this day...

There is a lot of mention of the product "Bleche-Wite" when searching on the net. Here in Canada it is impossible to find, but Simoniz has a tire cleaner that uses "Bleche-Wite" and readily available everywhere. I haven't tried it yet, but it is sold specifically for whitewalls and raised white lettering on tires.....

A good quality all purpose cleaner works well too. Westley's tends to yellow the whitewall over time. I use Zep APC on my Vub's whitewalls.

Believe it or not....WD-40 on a clean cloth cleans whitewalls very well.

Hey Lorne....that is exactly what I have done all these years. It always worked for me and the tires would be good for a month or so, always arriving at shows with the whitewalls gleaming. The problem seems to be the new tires purchased last year. The S.O.S. pads I have used for the last 30yrs, all of a sudden didn't do the job....They don't make 'em like they use to.......!

Just to share....this is my '82 Volvo, original owner and the car is 100% OEM stock. It will be judged next month at a Concours d' Elegance event and just won 1st place at a Volvo event this past Sunday...

What tires did you buy? I have the American Classic and SOS works really well. I thought you needed something that didn't need a rinse during a car show. That's when i use an all purpose cleaner.

Congrats on the Volvo. I'm a long Time Volvo guy. I regret selling my 87 that I kept so clean for over 15 years.

Goodyear Integrity. Because of Concourse judging...the tires have to be as close to OEM as possible. They replaced the Goodyear Arriva's that were OEM.

I'm a long Time Volvo guy.
Good to hear! The Canadian Volvo Club (I'm the President) just hosted our annual Family Day where we hosted both Irv Gordon and his 2.9 Million P1800 and Garry Sowerby and his '80 245DL "Red Cloud" which was driven around the world back in 1980. Irv has been a buddy for years.....

I sold my 1987 740GLE in 2002 with 250,000 miles (I have the badges) and the car was in mint condition, in and out, not a ding or rust spot on it, and was my daily driver. The car ran as good as when it had 30K miles. I just wanted a new car. Sold it to a nice young couple that just wanted a nice reliable/safe car. The guy couldn't believe the car had never been repainted. I replaced it with a 2002 S60/AWD. Also a great car.

I always has pretty good luck using "Comet" scouring powder with a sponge that has a scrubby side to it..Works good on my white wall motorcycle tires and wide white tires on my 38 Chevy...I never personally had much luck with Westleys Bleche White...
